Dingli (Maltese: Ħad-Dingli) is a village in the Northern Region of Malta. The name Dingli is believed to be derived from the name of Sir Thomas Dingley, an English knight of the Order of St. John, who owned much of the lands in the surrounding area.Until the early 16th century, a small village known as Ħal Tartarni existed, somewhere between Buskett and the present location of Dingli.[4] The village was one of the ten original parishes of Malta by 1436, having a church dedicated to Saint Domenica. The original church no longer exists, but a nearby chapel built in 1669 with the same dedication is still standing. The noble family Inguanez had a lot of land in the area, and employed the population of Ħal Tartarni to work the fields. Over time, the people moved closer towards the fields, abandoning the original village. The new village eventually grew to what is now Dingli.

- https://www.ft.com/content/8fe1eab2-e0ee-11e8-8e70-5e22a430c1ad The European Central Bank has withdrawn the banking licence for Pilatus Bank, the Maltese lender caught up in a scandal that has raised concerns that the financial systems of some EU member states have become gateways for money laundering. The move comes several months after US authorities charged the bank’s Iranian-born owner and former chairman Seyed Ali Sadr Hasheminejad with organising a scheme to evade US sanctions against Iran by illegally funnelling more than $115m from Venezuela to Iranian-controlled companies. He has pleaded not guilty and been released on bail. Pilatus was at the centre of murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia’s reporting on allegations of government corruption and money laundering in the months before her death in a car bombing in October 2017. Pilatus and its owner had filed defamation proceedings against the journalist last year after a series of stories published on her website claimed the bank had laundered funds from allegedly corrupt schemes on behalf of offshore companies and individuals, including Keith Schembri, chief of staff to the Maltese prime minister, Joseph Muscat. Mr Schembri vehemently denied the allegation. The Malta Financial Services Authority said in a statement published on Monday: “Further to the authority’s proposal to the European Central Bank to withdraw the authorisation of Pilatus Bank as a credit institution, the ECB’s governing council has decided to withdraw the authorisation of Pilatus Bank with effect from today.”
Shortly after the Second World War, several small private airlines were formed in Malta. Amongst these were The Malta Instone Airline, BAS (Malta) Ltd, and Malta Airlines. In 1947 the former two companies merged to form Air Malta Ltd in fierce competition with the latter. Eventually in 1951 Malta Airlines absorbed the operations of Air Malta Ltd and continued operating through an agreement with BEA until 1973. The owners of Air Malta Ltd used their real estate, staff and equipment to set up a ground handling company called MAS, Malta Aviation Services. In the early 1970s the Maltese government appointed Albert Mizzi as Chairman of the airline and made a call for an international airline partner to help set up an airline. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) then regarded as Asia's best airline was selected and a new carrier set up. The name chosen for the new airline was similar to that of its forerunner, Air Malta Co Ltd, and was established on 31 March 1973. BEA was chartered to continue its Malta operations, this time for Air Malta, until Air Malta's first flight on 1 April 1974. Both Malta Airlines and Malta Aviation Services were taken over by the government and the private owners were given a shareholding in Air Malta Co. Ltd.

-http://www.economist.com/news/europe/21678248-migrants-once-flocked-malta-host-eu-african-migration-summit-not-anymore-high-wallWHEN the European Union picked Malta as the site for this week’s EU-Africa migration summit, it seemed a logical choice. The island nation is perched in the Mediterranean halfway between Libya and Italy. For a time, it was one of the top destinations for migrants from Africa trying to reach Europe. And Valletta, Malta’s fortified Baroque capital, is a very telegenic spot for a summit. (In “Game of Thrones”, a television series, it serves as the backdrop for the port city of Pentos, whose own asylum seekers include the Targaryans, an exiled royal family.) But Malta is also apt in a way EU leaders may not have intended: as a standpoint from which to observe Europe’s increasingly confused attitude towards refugees and other immigrants.- Participated in 2016 hktdc baby product fair

- Maltese is considered its own subgroup within Arabic, which means it doesn’t share a close affinity with Arabic anywhere else. Scholars do not have a concensus on its origin, either; but I think it is widely believed to have a common origin with North African (Maghrabi) varieties of Arabic.https://www.quora.com/Is-Maltese-closer-to-Maghreb-Arabic-or-Arabian-Arabic
