The International Law Association (ILA) is a non-profit organization based in Great Britain that — according to its 2004 constitution — promotes "the study, clarification and development of international law" and "the furtherance of international understanding and respect for international law". The ILA was founded in Brussels in 1873 and its present-day headquarters are in London. It holds biennial (once in 2 years) conferences and releases reports of the same for use of the international community. Members as well as outsiders are allowed to participate in the conference, at a cost. The ILA maintains several committees and study groups that analyze specific facets of international law. The findings of these groups are distributed to its members several times a year.

-  The London Club is an informal group of private creditors on the international stage, and is similar to the Paris Club of public lenders. The London Club is not the only informal group of private payables. The first meeting of the London Club took place in 1976 in response to Zaire's debt payment problems.[citation needed]The London Club is also the organization responsible for rescheduling debt payments made by countries to commercial banks.

-  LSE IDEAS is an IGA Centre that acts as the School’s foreign policy think tank.
Through sustained engagement with policymakers and opinion-formers, IDEAS provides a forum that informs policy debate and connects academic research with the practice of diplomacy and strategy. IDEAS hosts interdisciplinary research projects, produces working papers and reports, holds public and off-the-record events, and delivers cutting-edge executive training programmes for government, business and third-sector organisations.
The Global Policy Institute is a London-based think tank on international affairs. It was founded in August 2006 as a research institute at London Metropolitan University to analyse the issues of globalisation and to formulate innovative policy solutions. It is based in Moorgate in the City of London, and draws on both a rich pool of local academic and business professionals and its extensive international connections. The Institute gives non-partisan guidance to policymakers and decision takers in business, government, and NGOs.

The Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) (originally named the Colonial Society, later re-christened as the Royal Colonial Society, the Royal Colonial Institute and lastly as the Royal Empire Society) is an international educational charity and a private members' club. Its mission is to support and promote the modern Commonwealth, its culture and core values. The Society acts as a forum for the exchange of ideas and, through its broad-ranging public affairs programme, offers a forum for the debate, research and development of Commonwealth thinking on key international issues.

  • http://news.nationalpost.com/news/world/backed-by-the-queen-commonwealth-invites-u-s-to-become-associate-member The Royal Commonwealth Society is planning to open a branch in New York with a view to bringing the U.S. into the fold as an “associate member.” The project, said to be backed by the Queen, has come about in part as a result of Donald Trump’s fondness for Britain and the Royal Family. It follows efforts to develop the Commonwealth as a tool for building relationships on foreign policy and trade following Britain’s exit from the EU.

Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council CWEIC is a membership organisation with a small secretariat supported by an Advisory Board comprising Government and business leaders from across the Commonwealth. The purpose of the Council is to promote trade and investment by facilitating engagement between Government and the private sector throughout the Commonwealth. CWEIC is a values based organisation reflecting the commitments of the Commonwealth Charter. Central to CWEIC’s work is the understanding that businesses require a set of values under which trade and investment can take place; transparency; good governance; respect for the rule of law; enforceable physical and intellectual property rights; equal opportunities and a diverse workforce and an overarching understanding that financial probity from government and the private sector is key to a flourishing business environment.
CWEIC is the apex organisation representing private sector businesses within the Commonwealth and is the only institution with a remit to promote intra-Commonwealth trade and investment. The CWEIC is also responsible for organising the Commonwealth Business Forum alongside the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

      gentleman's club
The Constitutional Club was a London gentlemen's club, now dissolved, which was established in 1883 and was disbanded in 1979. Between 1886 and 1959 it had a distinctive red and yellow Victorian Neo-Gothic terracotta building at 28 Northumberland Avenue, off Trafalgar SquareThe Club was closely aligned to the Conservative party, with members having to pledge support. The club was founded in anticipation of imminent franchise reform then being debated in parliament, which was eventually realised as the Representation of the People Act 1884. It was anticipated that as many more Conservative supporters would be given the vote, many would want to belong to a Conservative club. Existing Conservative clubs like the Carlton and the Junior Carlton feared that they would become inundated with membership applications from the new voters, so the Constitutional Club was founded with these new electors in mind. (The National Liberal Club, just around the corner from the Constitutional Club, was founded in 1882 with the same purpose in mind for the Liberal party, as the existing Liberal clubs, the Reform and the Devonshire, had been similarly oversubscribed.)

      "elite"
The Bullingdon Club is an exclusive all-male dining club for Oxford University undergraduates, though it is not officially recognised by that institution. It is noted for its wealthy members, grand banquets, boisterous rituals and destructive behaviour, such as the vandalising ("trashing") of restaurants and students' rooms. Many local outlets refuse to host these events. The Bullingdon was originally a sporting club, dedicated to cricket and horse-racing, although club dinners gradually became its principal activity. Membership is expensive, with tailor-made uniforms, regular gourmet hospitality, and a tradition of on-the-spot payment for damages. The club has attracted controversy, as some members have gone on to become part of Britain’s political establishment. These include the former Prime Minister David Cameron, former Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, and Nick Hurd, current Minister of State for Policing and the Fire Services. The Bullingdon is regularly featured in fiction and drama, sometimes under its own name, and sometimes easily recognisable under another (as in the 2014 film The Riot Club).
The Athenaeum is a private members' club in London, founded in 1824. It is primarily a club for men and women with intellectual interests, and particularly (but not exclusively) for those who have attained some distinction in science, engineering, literature or the arts. The impressive clubhouse (at 107 Pall Mall at the corner of Waterloo Place) was designed by Decimus Burton in the Neoclassical style, and built by the company Decimus's father, James Burton, the pre-eminent London property developer. Decimus was described by architectural scholar Guy Williams as 'the designer and prime member of the Athenaeum, one of London's grandest gentlemens' [sic] clubs'. The Clubhouse has a Doric portico, above which is a statue of the classical goddess of wisdom, Athena, from whom the Club derives its name. The bas-relief frieze is a copy of the frieze of the Parthenon in Athens. The club's facilities include an extensive library, a dining room known as the Coffee Room, a Morning Room, a Drawing Room on the first floor, a newly restored[when?] Smoking Room on the upper floor, where smoking is not permitted, and a suite of bedrooms.

The Lunar Society of Birmingham was a dinner club and informal learned society of prominent figures in the Midlands Enlightenment, including industrialists, natural philosophersand intellectuals, who met regularly between 1765 and 1813 in Birmingham, England. At first called the Lunar Circle, "Lunar Society" became the formal name by 1775. The name arose because the society would meet during the full moon, as the extra light made the journey home easier and safer in the absence of street lighting. The members cheerfully referred to themselves as "lunaticks", a pun on lunatics. Venues included Erasmus Darwin's home in LichfieldMatthew Boulton's home, Soho House, Bowbridge House in Derbyshire, and Great Barr Hall.

        - Henry Jackson Society http://henryjacksonsociety.org/

        • The Henry Jackson Society is a right-wing neo-conservative British think tank. It is named after the American politician Henry M. Jackson, the late Democratic Senator and anticommunist liberal hawkThe society was founded on 11 March 2005 by academics and students at Cambridge (many of whom were affiliated with the Centre for International Studies), including Brendan Simms, Alan Mendoza, Gideon Mailer, James Rogers and Matthew Jamison. It organizes meetings with speakers in the House of Commons. The society claims that it advocates an interventionist foreign-policy that promotes human rights and reduces suffering, by both non-military and military methods, when appropriate. In 2006, the society worked to raise the profile of the Ahwazi Arabs of Iran, who it claims are currently being oppressed by the Iranian government. After originating within the University of Cambridge, the organisation is now based in London. In April 2011 the entire staff of another London think-tank, the Centre for Social Cohesion (which has since been dissolved), joined the Henry Jackson Society. The organization is a registered charity in England and Wales and earns financial backing from private donations and grant-making organisations which support its work.[13] The income of the society increased significantly from 2009 to 2014, from £98,000 to £1.6 million per year. In 2009 the society became the secretariat of two all-party parliamentary groups (APPGs), for Transatlantic and International Security, chaired by Gisela Stuart, and for Homeland Security, chaired by Bernard Jenkin. A transparency requirement upon non-profit organisations acting as secretariat at that time was that they must reveal, on request, any corporate donors who gave £5,000 or more to the organisation over the past year or cease acting as a secretariat organisation. In 2014, following a query, the society refused to disclose this information and resigned its position as secretariat of the APPGs concerned in order to comply with the Rules. The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Kathryn Hudson, upheld a complaint against these APPGs on the grounds data had not been provided, but noted the society had already resigned its position and that the consequence of this non-provision therefore "appears to have taken effect" as the Rules intended. The case was therefore closed with no further action taken and the APPGs themselves dissolved with the dissolution of Parliament in March 2015. The APPG Rules were subsequently changed in March 2015 so that only those non-profit organisations providing services to APPGs of more than £12,500 in value needed to declare their corporate donors.

This weekend, the former British foreign secretary Malcolm Rifkind acknowledged that the HJS, founded in 2005, had approached him to put his name to an article published by the Daily Telegraph last August expressing concerns about China's involvement in Britain's Hinkley Point C nuclear plant.

Among the members of the IWC are the Republic of Ireland (since 1951), Israel (since 1949), West Germany (since 1951) and Japan (since 1951). In 1995 it was renamed International Grains Council.

The Grain and Feed Trade Association or GAFTA is an international, London headquartered trade association consisting of traders, brokers, superintendents, analysts, fumigators, arbitrators and other professionals in the international grain trade.Gafta can trace its origins back to 1878, when the London Corn Trade Association (LCTA) was established by members of the corn trade to protect their interests. The LCTA sought to achieve this through the adoption of standard forms of contract, drawn up by the association, with any disputes arising out of these contracts being settled by arbitration rather than legislation. Disputes were referred to London and conducted under English Law. In 1906, a group of traders broke away from the LCTA and formed a new more specialised association, the London Cattle Food Trade Association (LCFTA), for those trading in vegetable proteins used as animal feedingstuffs. In 1965, the LCFTA dropped ‘London’ from its title, reflecting growing internationalisation. In 1969, merger talks commenced between the LCTA and CFTA. The outcome of these talks was the formation of a new joint association, the Grain and Feed Trade Association in 1971. In 2008 the International General Produce Association (IGPA) joined the Grain and Feed Trade Association. GAFTA is headquartered in Holborn, London and currently operates four more offices in Beijing, Geneva, Kiev and Singapore.

The International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) is a global organization, composed of both cocoa producing and cocoa consuming countries with a membership. Located in London, ICCO was established in 1973 to put into effect the first International Cocoa Agreement which was negotiated in Geneva at a United Nations International Cocoa Conference. There have since been seven Agreements. The Seventh International Cocoa Agreement was negotiated in Geneva in 2010 and came into force provisionally on 1 October 2012. On 2 November 2005, the total percentage of exporting countries which had acceded to the Agreement surpassed 80%. Thus, the International Cocoa Agreement, 2001 entered into force definitively for the first time in the 30-year history of the International Cocoa Agreements. ICCO Member countries represent almost 85% of world cocoa production and more than 60% of world cocoa consumption. All Members are represented in the International Cocoa Council, the highest governing body of the ICCO. The two most important breakthroughs of the present International Cocoa Agreement were the establishment of an explicit mandate on a Sustainable World Cocoa Economy and the founding of the Consultative Board on the World Cocoa EconomyThe Consultative Board consists of fourteen international experts in the cocoa sector, all from the private sector (seven from cocoa producing Member countries and seven from cocoa consuming Member countries). However, the Board, whose mandate is as extensive as that of the International Cocoa Council and comprises all aspects of the world cocoa economy, only functions in an advisory capacity, as all final decisions are taken by the International Cocoa Council. The Consultative Board was established in recognition of the importance of the private sector in the world cocoa economy and of the increasingly important role that trade and industry have been playing in ICCO.

The Society of Dilettanti (founded 1734) is a society of noblemen and scholars which sponsors the study of ancient Greek and Roman art, and the creation of new work in the style.Though the exact date is unknown, the Society is believed to have been established as a London dining club in 1732[1] by a group of people who had been on the Grand Tour. Records of the earliest meeting of the Society were written somewhat informally on loose pieces of paper. The first entry in the first minute book of the Society is dated April 5, 1736. In 1743 Horace Walpole condemned its affectations and described it as such; "...a club, for which the nominal qualification is having been in Italy, and the real one, being drunk: the two chiefs are Lord Middlesex and Sir Francis Dashwood, who were seldom sober the whole time they were in Italy" The group, initially led by Francis Dashwood, contained several dukes and was later joined by Joshua Reynolds, David Garrick, Uvedale Price and Richard Payne Knight, among others. It was closely associated with Brooks's, one of London's most exclusive gentlemen's clubs. The society quickly became wealthy, through a system in which members made contributions to various funds to support building schemes and archaeological expeditions. The first artist associated with the group was George KnaptonThe Society of Dilettanti aimed to correct and purify the public taste of the country; from the 1740s, it began to support Italian opera. A few years before Sir Joshua Reynolds became a member, the group worked towards the objective of forming a public academy, and from the 1750s, it was the prime mover in establishing the Royal Academy. In 1775 the club had accumulated enough money towards a scholarship fund for the purpose of supporting a student's travel to Rome and Greece, or for archaeological expeditions such as that of Richard Chandler, William Pars and Nicholas Revett, the results of which they published in Ionian Antiquities, a major influence on neo-Classicism in Britain.

http://pdf.wenweipo.com/2015/09/13/a17-0913.pdf

                      • The Keswick Convention is an annual gathering of evangelical Christians in Keswick, in the English county of CumbriaThe Keswick Convention began in 1875 as a focal point for the Higher Life movement in the United Kingdom. It was founded by an Anglican, Canon T. D. Harford-Battersby, and a Quaker, Robert Wilson. They held the first Keswick Convention in a tent on the lawn of St John's vicarage, Keswick, beginning with a prayer meeting on the evening of Monday, 28 June. During the conference—which continued till Friday morning—over 400 people attended uniting under the banner of "All One in Christ Jesus"—which is still the convention's watchword. Robert Pearsall Smith, a Quaker turned Plymouth Brethren[3] probably influenced the Convention's use of the American term "convention", rather than the British "conference". During the same time period, D. L. Moody—the New England evangelist—also employed the same term to denote a special Christian gathering.

The association's China office is intended to assist the development of the medical education sector through the use of its resources, including literature, conferences and guides to produce better healthcare practitioners, said Trevor Gibbs, a development officer for the association. Although Chinese medical education has produced some excellent doctors, it remains a traditional, lecture-based activity that could be improved by different techniques, Gibbs said. Medical education "has evolved into a system that looks at students and how they learn, bringing new theories along with different innovations", he said. The association, established in 1972, is based in Dundee, Scotland. Half its members are outside Europe.

Oxfam was founded at 17 Broad Street in OxfordOxfordshire, in 1942 as the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief by a group of Quakerssocial activists, and Oxford academics; this is now Oxfam Great Britain, still based in Oxford. It was one of several local committees formed in support of the National Famine Relief Committee. Their mission was to persuade the British government to allow food relief through the Allied blockade for the starving citizens of occupied Greece. The first overseas Oxfam was founded in Canada in 1963. The organization changed its name to its telegraphic addressOXFAM, in 1965.The original Oxford Committee for Famine Relief was a group of concerned citizens including Doctor Henry Gillett (a prominent local Quaker), Canon Theodore Richard Milford, Professor Gilbert Murray and his wife Lady Mary, Cecil Jackson-Cole and Sir Alan Pim. The Committee met in the Old Library of University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford, for the first time in 1942, and its aim was to relieve famine in Greececaused by Nazi Germany military occupation and Allied naval blockades. By 1960, it was a major international non-governmental aid organization.[citation neededThe name Oxfam comes from the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, founded in Britain in 1942 and registered in accordance with UK law in 1943. Oxfam International was formed in 1995 by a group of independent non-governmental organizations. Their aim was to work together for greater impact on the international stage to reduce poverty and injustice. Stichting Oxfam International registered as a non-profit foundation at The Hague, Netherlands.

                      • Founded in Paris in 1957 by Major Lucien Ott, a member of the French Deuxieme Bureau and former bodyguard to General Charles de Gaulle. The Association originally served as a think tank for bodyguards when Major Ott found that international methods of protection for military VIPs were drastically outmoded and increasingly ineffective. The Association’s instructors have led training teams in the Baltic Republics, Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. The IBA were the first outsiders to train the KGB (Crimea 1991) as well as government and corporate teams in Poland (1988), Estonia (1989), Latvia and Lithuania (1990). In addition, we have trained UN forces in Bosnia and elements of the security forces for the European Union.
                      •  have trained the Iraqi Police, the Cambodian Police, elements of the US Army’s 1st Special Forces Group, bodyguards for the United Nations security teams, bodyguards and drivers for the Organisation for Security & Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Thai National Police, Thai Navy SEALS, Mongolian Special Forces, the Mongolian Central Intelligence Agency, the State Special Security Agency and Police SWAT unit.

                      sports and social club
-The Hurlingham Club is an exclusive sports and social club located in Fulham, London, England. It has a Georgian clubhouse set in 42 acres (17 ha) of grounds. It is a member of The Association of London Clubs. In 1867 Frank Heathcote received the permission of Richard Naylor to promote live pigeon shooting at his Hurlingham estate.[2] His next step was the formation of the Hurlingham Club for this purpose and 'as an agreeable country resort'.[3] The club leased the estate from Naylor in 1869 and in 1874 acquired the land outright for £27,500.[4] The pigeon today forms part of the club's crest. Until 1905, clouds of pigeons were released in the summer from an enclosure near what is now a tennis pavilion. The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), an early patron, was a keen shot and his presence ensured the club's status and notability from the beginning. The current patron is HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
