Hallstatt is known for its production of salt, dating back to prehistoric times, and gave its name to the Hallstatt culture, a culture often linked to CelticProto-Celtic, and pre-Illyrian people of the Early Iron Age Europe, c.800–450 BC. Some of the earliest archaeological evidence for the Celts was found in Hallstatt. In 1846, Johann Georg Ramsauer (1795–1874) discovered a large prehistoric cemetery near Hallstatt, which he excavated during the second half of the 19th century. Eventually the excavation would yield 1,045 burials, although no settlement has yet been found. This may be covered by the later village, which has long occupied the whole narrow strip between the steep hillsides and the lake.

salzburg
- [sound of music keepsake published by colorama] salzburg was an independent principality under rule of prince-archbishops for more than 1000 years.  The prince-archbishop held the authority of the pope north of the alps for the "holy roman empire of german nations".  He had the sovereignty to mint money; hold courts of justice, and collect taxes.  The salt from the durrnberg- the white gold- was the source of his financial success.  In 1803 archbishop hieronnymous graf colloredo fled to vienna to escape the advancing napoleonic troops.  Secularization came when salzburg was turned to a federal state of austria and established a provincial government in 1816.

瓦豪河谷 The Wachau (German pronunciation: [vaˈxaʊ]) is an Austrian valley with a picturesque landscape formed by the Danube river. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations of Lower Austria, located midway between the towns of Melk and Krems A well-known place and tourist attraction is Dürnstein, where King Richard the Lion-Heart of Englandwas held captive by Duke Leopold VIt has been inferred that Krems and Melk were well settled establishments in the early Neolithic period between 4500 BC and 1800 BC. Wachau Valley's ancient history in the Neolithic period started with deforestation by the people of the land for cultivation and settlement. In 15 BC, the Celtic kingdom of Noricum became part of the Roman Empire. Since then the Empire's boundaries were made up along the Danube also in Wachau and the fortifications of the Limes were built along its southern banks, especially Castrum Favianis (what is now Mautern an der Donau) at the downstream end of the valley and some burgi (i.e. small watchtower-like fortresses) in the area of Rossatz-Arnsdorf municipality, the remains of which can still be seen today, most notably in Bacharnsdorf. Roman rule on the southern banks of the Danube came to an end when King Odoaker ordered the evacuation of the Latin speaking population in 488 AD. The name "wachu" as such was recorded as "locus Wahowa" in 853 AD and the name of "Krems" was recorded as Urbs Chremisa in 995 AD, marking it as the oldest Austrian town. The Babenberg Margraves, with Leopold I as their first king, ruled in Wachau from 976 AD. The 11th century marked an Austrian dukedom of Babenberg under Henry I, in 1156; it came under the great knightly family of the Wachau, the Kuenrings and later passed on to the Babenberg. With the dissipation of this line of rule, Duke Albrecht V (King Albrecht II) came to power in 1430. Between 1150 and 1839 AD, the four towns of St Michael, Wösendorf, Joching, and Weissenkirchen functioned independently. However, they formed a single entity as Wachau or Tal Wachau only in 1972.
Artstetten-Pöbring is a small town in the Melk district most known for Artstetten Castle, which is noted for its many onion-shaped domes. The castle has been refurbished many times over the past 700 years. It is famous for the fact that the Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the former owner of the castle. A museum in the castle has pictures of the life history of "the one and only Duke" and his wife during their stay in the castle. The duke and his wife were assassinated during their visit to Sarajevo, which triggered World War I. The castle also houses their tomb.

德意志瓦格拉姆  Deutsch-Wagram (literally "German-Wagram") is a town in Austria, in the Gänserndorf District of the federal state of Lower Austria. It is situated in the Marchfeld basin close to the Vienna city limits, northeast of the city centre. The settlement was probably established in the Bavarian March of Austria by colonists in the course of the Ostsiedlung. Wagram was first mentioned in a 1258 tithe register, drawn up when King Ottokar II of Bohemia ruled over the Austrian duchy. It was named after a now silted up meander of the Danube river, where the waves (German: Wogen) crushed against the shore (Rain). In 1560 it received the prefix Deutsch- to differ it from Kroatisch-Wagram (today part of Eckartsau), a village founded by Croat settlers in the course of the 1529 Ottoman Siege of Vienna.[citation needed]In 1580 the population turned Protestant but was forcefully converted in the Counter-Reformation under the Habsburg emperor Ferdinand II shortly afterwards.[citation needed]Deutsch-Wagram was the location of the 1809 Battle of Wagram fought between invading French troops under Napoleon and an Austrian army led by Archduke Charles. The population rose after the area was connected with the Austrian capital by the opening of the Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway (the present-day Austrian North Railway) in 1837. The former village was elevated to the status of a market town in 1929 and received town privileges in 1984. The firearm company Glock was founded here in 1963.

- Red Bull is an energy drink sold by Red Bull GmbH, an Austrian company created in 1987. Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitzwas inspired by an existing energy drink named Krating Daeng, which was first introduced and sold in Thailand by Chaleo Yoovidhya. He took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of Westerners,[11] and, in partnership with Chaleo, founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987 in Chakkapong, Thailand. In Thaidaengmeans red, and a krating (known in English as a gaur or Indian bison) is a large species of wild bovine native to South Asia. Yoovidhya's heirs own majority stakes in both brands, and they both use the same red bull on yellow sun logo while continuing to market the separate drinks to the respective Thai and Western markets.

Austria’s attempts to draw a line under one of Europe’s most dramatic recent bank failures collapsed on Monday after bondholders rejected a deal which would have saved one of the country’s smallest provinces from possible bankruptcy. The failure to secure an agreement over the former Hypo Alpe Adria bank is a blow for the government in Vienna, which now faces years of arguments with investors. It also leaves the southern province of Carinthia, where Hypo was headquartered, facing liabilities running into billions of euros.

  • Austria was created in the 10th century as a part of the Duchy of Bavaria, long after Christianity had taken over Europe. In German, Austria is known as Österreich, or East Realm(land, country,etc..). It is also thought to be Germanicized from the Latin “Marchia austriaca” or “Marchia Orientalis”. My Latin isn’t that good but the later means the same “march(vassal, lands, realm) in the east” and the former means the same but the Latin root “aus” means south, as in AUStralia. As Latin was used by the Germans in the middle ages, they are likely the ones who used the term “Marchia Austriaca” as it is to the south and east of Bavaria, thus leading to the later Germanized from of Austria.https://www.quora.com/Is-Austria-named-after-the-Germanic-goddess-Eostre-Ostara

  • Klemens Wenzel Nepomuk Lothar, Prince von Metternich-Winneburg zu Beilstein, KOGF (German: [ˈmɛtɐnɪç]; 15 May 1773 – 11 June 1859)[1] was an Austrian diplomat who was at the center of European affairs for four decades as the Austrian Empire's foreign minister from 1809 and Chancellor from 1821 until the liberal Revolutions of 1848 forced his resignation. Born into the House of Metternich in 1773 as the son of a diplomat, Metternich received a good education at the universities of Strasbourg and Mainz. Metternich rose through key diplomatic posts, including ambassadorial roles in the Kingdom of Saxony, the Kingdom of Prussia, and especially Napoleonic France. One of his first assignments as Foreign Minister was to engineer a détente with France that included the marriage of Napoleon to the Austrian archduchess Marie Louise. Soon after, he engineered Austria's entry into the War of the Sixth Coalitionon the Allied side, signed the Treaty of Fontainebleau that sent Napoleon into exile and led the Austrian delegation at the Congress of Viennathat divided post-Napoleonic Europe amongst the major powers. For his service to the Austrian Empire, he was given the title of Prince in October 1813. Under his guidance, the "Metternich system" of international congresses continued for another decade as Austria aligned itself with Russia and to a lesser extent Prussia. This marked the high point of Austria's diplomatic importance and thereafter Metternich slowly slipped into the periphery of international diplomacy. At home, Metternich held the post of Chancellor of State from 1821 until 1848 under both Francis I and his son Ferdinand I. After a brief exile in London, Brighton, and Brussels that lasted until 1851, he returned to the Viennese court, this time to offer only advice to Ferdinand's successor, Franz Josef. Having outlived his generation of politicians, Metternich died at the age of 86 in 1859. A traditional conservative, Metternich was keen to maintain the balance of power, in particular by resisting Russian territorial ambitions in Central Europe and lands belonging to the Ottoman Empire. He disliked liberalism and strove to prevent the breakup of the Austrian Empire, for example, by crushing nationalist revolts in Austrian north Italy. At home, he pursued a similar policy, using censorship and a wide-ranging spy network to suppress unrest. Metternich has been both praised and heavily criticized for the policies he pursued. His supporters pointed out that he presided over the "Age of Metternich", when international diplomacy helped prevent major wars in Europe. His qualities as a diplomat were commended, some noting that his achievements were considerable in light of the weakness of his negotiating position. Meanwhile, his detractors argued that he could have done much to secure Austria's future, and he was deemed as a stumbling block to reforms in Austria.

  • Stefan Zweig (/zwɡswɡ/; German: [tsvaɪk]; November 28, 1881 in Vienna – February 22, 1942 in Petrópolis) was an Austrian novelist, playwright, journalist and biographer.Zweig was born in Vienna, the son of Moritz Zweig (1845–1926), a wealthy Jewish textile manufacturer, and Ida Brettauer (1854–1938), a daughter of a Jewish banking family. The World of Yesterday: Memories of a European (German title Die Welt von Gestern: Erinnerungen eines Europäers) is the memoir of Austrian writer Stefan Zweig. It is considered the most famous book on the Habsburg Empire. He started writing it in 1934 when, anticipating Anschluss and Nazi persecution, he uprooted himself from Austria to England and later to Brazil. He posted the manuscript, typed by his second wife Lotte Altmann, to the publisher the day before they both committed suicide in February 1942. The book was first published in Stockholm (1942), as Die Welt von Gestern. It was first published in English in April 1943 by Viking Press. The book describes life in Vienna at the start of the 20th century with detailed anecdotes.  It depicts the dying days of Austria-Hungary under Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, including the system of education and the sexual ethics prevalent at the time, the same that provided the backdrop to the emergence of psychoanalysis.

In April images emerged showing children in Turkish army uniforms re-enacting the World War One Battle of Gallipoli. The Turkish president's office called Austria's move "Islamophobic, racist and discriminatory".

Hong Kong certainly has THE start-up DNA as the springboard to China and Asia. Austria enhances its science and technology sector in recent years. The investment in 2015 is up to EUR10.1 billion, composing 3.01% of GDP, ranking the fourth after Finland, Sweden and Denmark in EU. Austria is the portal to Central and Eastern Europe. Mr Harald Mahrer, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy, Vienna, Austria has an idea to set up GIN which plans to partner three emerging innovative pioneer centres in the world: Hong Kong, Singapore and Israel. The elected start-ups will be connected to incubators, investors and technical transfer organisations. GIN will also provide individual coaching. As Mr Mahrer understood, GIN is the first government induced international network in the world.
