- jarls
- In Sweden, members of medieval royal families, such as the House of Stenkil and House of Bjelbo, held the title of jarl before their accession to the throne. Since the early 12th century, there usually was only one holder of the title at a time, second only to the King of Sweden. For special occasions, regional jarls outside of Sweden could be nominated as well. An example of this is Jon Jarl, who allegedly conducted pirate operations against Novgorod in the east.
When the House of Bjelbo (alt. Bjälbo) succeeded in becoming the royal family in 1250, the title was subsumed into that of duke and the powers were merged into the kingship soon after Birger Jarl's death in 1266. According to Procopius, the Heruli, after having raided the European continent for several generations, returned to Scandinavia in 512 as a result of military defeats. As their old territory was now occupied by the Danes, they settled next to the Geatsin present-day Sweden. While the Proto-Norse word for this mysterious tribe, erilar,[citation needed] is etymologically near the title "jarl" and "earl" in other places, perhaps implying ' those who can read or dictate ' and it has often been suggested they introduced the runes in Scandinavia[citation needed], no elaborate theory exists to explain how the word came to be used as a title. Arguably, their knowledge in interpreting runes also meant they were gifted in martial arts and, as they gradually integrated, eril or jarl instead came to signify the rank of a leader. As described in the Icelandic sagas, such as Rígsthula, a jarl was a sort of chieftain next in rank to the king in the function of Marshal or Duke of the King's Army. Under any circumstance, when jarls are finally mentioned in medieval documents, it clearly was a title signifying a leader ranked directly under the king. In Swedish history, Jarls are described as either local rulers or viceroys appointed by a king, ruling one of the historical Swedish provinces, such as Västergötland, Östergötland, or Svitjod. In Norway, the jarls apparently kept this role and the kings attempted to introduce one in each Fylke before the title was used exclusively on the Orkney Islands in the 14th century. In Sweden, however, by the mid-10th century the title was used exclusively by a single person[citation needed] and the local leaders were gradually being referred to as dux or duke. Before the title was finally discontinued in the mid-13th century, Swedish jarls were powerful men, such as Birger Brosa, Ulf Fase, and Birger Jarl(actual surname "Magnusson"), often the true rulers of the Swedish kingdom.
- The royal jewels that were stolen from a Swedish cathedral in a brazen heist that grabbed global headlines last year may have been found – on top of a bin. The search for both the culprits and the jewels gained international attention after the 17th-century royal crowns were taken from a cathedral in Strängnäs, one hour from Stockholm, with the suspects then seen fleeing the scene on women's bicycles and a motorboat. The crowns were made for the burial of King Charles IX and his wife Christina and date back to the early 1600s. A royal orb was stolen along with them, and the gold jewels are decorated with silver and pearls. July's royal heist was the second to take place in the area around Lake Mälaren in recent years. In 2013, a crown and sceptre used in the funeral of Sweden's King Johan III were stolen from nearby Västerås. Those items were later located in two large rubbish bags at the side of a highway following a tip-off to police. https://www.thelocal.se/20190205/have-swedens-stolen-crown-jewels-been-found-at-last-stockholm-strangnas-trial

- Sveriges Riksbank or simply the Riksbank, is the central bank of Sweden. It is the world's oldest central bank and the third oldest bank in operation. The first part of the word riksbank, riks, stems from the Swedish word rike, which means realm, kingdom, empire or nation in English. A literal English translation of the bank's name could thus be Sweden's realm's bank. The bank, however, doesn't translate its name to English but uses its Swedish name the Riksbank also in its English communications. The Riksbank began operations in 1668. Previously, Sweden was served by the Stockholms Banco (also known as the Bank of Palmstruch), founded by Johan Palmstruch in 1656. Although the bank was private, it was the king who chose its management: in a letter to Palmstruch, he gave permission to its operations according to stated regulations. But Stockholms Banco collapsed as a result of the issuing of too many notes without the necessary collateral. Palmstruch, who was considered responsible for the bank's losses, was condemned to death, but later received clemency. On 17 September 1668, the privilege of Palmstruch to operate a bank was transferred to the Riksens Ständers Bank ("Bank of the Estates of the Realm") and was run under the auspices of the parliament of the day. Due to the failure of Stockholm Banco, the new bank was managed under the direct control of the Riksdag of the Estates to prevent the interference from the king. When a new Riksdag was instituted in 1866, the name of the bank was changed to Sveriges Riksbank. Having learned the lesson of the Stockholms Banco experience, the Riksbank was not permitted to issue bank-notes. Nevertheless, in 1701, permission was granted to issue so called credit-notes". Some time in the middle of the 18th century, counterfeit notes began appearing, which caused serious problems. To prevent forgeries, it was decided that the Riksbank should produce its own paper for bank-notes and a paper-mill, Tumba Bruk, was founded in Tumba, on the outskirts of Stockholm. A few years later, the first commercial banks were founded and these were also allowed to issue bank-notes. The bank-notes represented a claim to the bank without interest paid, and thus became a considerable source of income for banks. Nonetheless, security in the form of a deposit at the Riksbank was required to cover the value of all notes issued.

Dalarna (English exonym: Dalecarlia), is a historical province or landskap in central Sweden. Another English language form established in literature is the Dales. Historically, Dalarna has enjoyed a rich and unique folk culture, with distinct music, paintings (often centered on Biblical themes) and handicrafts.[citation needed] The province preserved longer than any other the use of the Runic alphabet, a local dialect of which, the so-called Dalecarlian runes or Dalrunes, survived into the 19th century. A famous symbol of the province is the Dalecarlian horse, in Swedish Dalahäst, a painted and decorated wooden horse. Sulky racing is popular in the region. The high level of calcium in the soil favours horse breeding.
- The carving of Dala horses as a livelihood is thought to have started in the village of Bergkarlås in central Sweden, though the nearby "horse" villages of Risa, Vattnäs, and Nusnäs were also centres of horse-making. The villages were involved in the art of furniture and clock-making, and it is likely the leftover scraps of wood were put to use in the production of Dala horses.[1] Many early Dala horses were not painted at all, but in the beginning of the 19th century painting them in a single color, white or red, became common practice. The decoration of the Dala horse has its roots in furniture painting and was perfected over the years. According to a local tale, a wandering painter in the style of kurbitscame across one of these Dala horses in a farm he was decorating. When asked by one of the children why that horse was not as beautifully painted as the ones in the decorations, he painted the Dala horse in the same style. This tradition was then carried on in order to raise the market value of the Dala horses
Gotland (/ˈɡɒtlənd/; Swedish pronunciation: [ˈɡɔtland] , older spellings include Gottland /ˈɡɒtlənd/ or Gothland /ˈɡɒθlənd/,), Gutland in the local dialect, is a province, county, municipality, and diocese of Sweden. It is Sweden's largest island. The island is the home of the Gutes, and sites such as the Ajvide Settlement show that it has been occupied since prehistory. A DNA study conducted on the 5,000-year-old skeletal remains of three Middle Neolithic seal hunters from Gotland showed that they were related to modern-day Finns, while a farmer from Gökhem parish in Västergötland on the mainland was found to be more closely related to modern-day Mediterraneans. This is consistent with the spread of agricultural peoples from the Middle East at about that time.

- 哈帕蘭達Haparanda is, despite its small population, for historical reasons often still referred to as a city. Statistics Sweden, however, only counts localitieswith more than 10,000 inhabitants as cities. Haparanda is located at the northerly extreme of the Swedish coastline, and far removed from large cities. Its summers are very mild for a coastal location so far north, and winters are normally not extremely cold in spite of the relative proximity to the Arctic Circle. When Sweden ceded Finland to Russia in 1809, the Finnish–Swedish border was drawn along the Rivers Tornio and Muonio. The town of Tornio, located on the island Suensaari in the river delta became part of the Grand Duchy of Finland within the Russian Empire as demanded by czar Alexander I. (Finland declared independence in 1917).At that time the town of Tornio was dominated by Swedish-speaking merchants and craftsmen, forming a linguistic island in a Finnish-speaking countryside. After the war many of the Swedes started to develop the small village Haaparanta across the border instead (Haparanda and Tornio are within walking distance), eventually leaving Tornio unilingually Finnish. Haparanda was made a market town (köping) in 1821 and received its city charter in 1842.
- 呂勒奧Luleå has the seventh biggest harbour in Sweden for shipping goods.[4] It has a large steel industry and is a centre for extensive research. Luleå University of Technology is one of Sweden's three technology universities (the other two are KTH and Chalmers) and the northernmost university in Sweden. The town's Royal charter was granted in 1621 by King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. The original town was situated where Gammelstad (Old Town) is situated today. The town had to be moved in 1649 to the current site,[5] due to the post-glacial rebound that had made the bay too shallow for ships to enter. The town has been plagued by fires in 1653, 1657 and in 1887, and the fire in 1887 was a devastating fire that destroyed most of the town, sparing only a few buildings. The Neo-Gothic Cathedral (originally the Oscar Fredrik church), dedicated in 1893, standing at 67 meters (220 ft), is the tallest building in town.
諾爾蘭Norrland (Swedish: [ˈnɔ̌rːland] , "Northland", originally Norrlanden or "the Northlands") is the northernmost, largest and least populated of the three traditional lands of Sweden, consisting of nine provinces. Although Norrland does not serve any administrative purposes, it continues to exist as a historical, cultural, and geographic region; it is often referred to in everyday language, e.g., in weather forecasts. Several related Norrland dialects form a distinct subset of dialects of the Swedish language separate from those to its south.Historically, Jämtland and Härjedalen belonged to Norway until 1645, and are thus often considered outside of the historical Norrland. Administratively, Sweden is not divided into provinces but into counties (Län). Although Norrland is defined in terms of the historical provinces and not the counties, it roughly comprises the modern counties of Gävleborg, Jämtland, Norrbotten, Västerbotten and Västernorrland.During the industrial revolution, which reached Sweden in the mid-19th Century, Norrland became the source for the important wood and pulp industry. All of the major Norrland rivers but four have been exploited for water power. The rivers in Norrland account for the bulk of hydroelectric power in Sweden – in many countries a limited energy source, but in Sweden hydroelectrical power accounts for approximately 40 percent of Sweden's total production of electricity.Mines for producing precious metals have also been located in Norrland. In older history and still today, the administration in Stockholm viewed Norrland pretty much as a colony consisting of natural resources to be exploited. "In Norrland we have an India within our borders, if only we realize we should be taking advantage of it" (I Norrland hava vi inom våra gränser ett Indien, blott vi förstå att bruka det) is a quote attributed to Axel Oxenstierna that fairly well describes the attitude. In the official history of Sweden not much is written about the northern parts of the country.

- Helgö is an island in Ekerö Municipality in Stockholm County, Sweden. Helgö is an island situated in Lake Mälaren. The island is perhaps best known for a major archaeological area. The old trading town on Helgö began to emerge around the year 200 AD, 500 years before Birka at Björkö. The first archaeological dig in 1954 uncovered the remains of the early settlement, including a workshop area which attracted international interest. The most notable finds included a small Buddha statuette from North India and a christening scoop from Egypt, both dating from the 6th century. The Indian Buddha statuette, the Irish crozier and the Egyptian Coptic scoop which were found on Helgö, are presently on display in the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm. The site where Kaggeholm Castle (Kaggeholms slott) is located was first mentioned in a land title document in 1287. During the 1500s the farm was owned by members of the families Grip and Bååt.

瑟爾沃斯堡Sölvesborg As the water from the Baltic Ice Lake withdrew, the land around present-day Sölvesborg became accessible to settlers from what today is Denmark. The first people to settle were farmers; remains of their presence have been found in the area dating back to the Stone Age, mostly in the area around Gammalstorp, Siretorp and Istaby. The hill in the east, marking the border towards Karlshamn called Ryssberget, was a direct creation of the glacial movements. On the western side of the hill, the different times of ice withdrawal are clearly noticeable. The old, now drained lake of Vesan was also a product of the ice age. The port town of Sölvesborg was founded in the 12th century, between the mountain Ryssberget and the bay to the east (Sölvesborgsviken), but the city itself has grown up around the church, the monastery and later on the castle. The oldest part of the church of Saint Nicholas is from the 12th century. In the 14th century, the church formed part of a Carmelite convent.[2] In 1564 Sölvesborg took over the city charter of Elleholm. At about the same time as the church was built, the castle took shape. The oldest part are slightly younger than the church, and although the earliest days are not well documented,[3] it is supposed that it was originally merely a fortress. The castle came to be extended - both its height as well as the area it covered during the years. The city was granted its charter in 1445 by the Scandinavian king Christopher of Bavaria. The history of Sölvesborg is marked by its location on the main road connecting the then Danish districts of Skåne and Blekinge, therefore a fortress was built as Sölvesborg was the main city in the province of Sölvesborg (called Sölvesborgs län).The origin of the name Sölvesborg is unclear, but is believed to come from the founder of the castle, Sölfwitz or Sölvitz. The name thus means the castle (Borg) of Sölfwitz. Others[4] claim that the mentioned Sölve might be the Norse Viking King Sölve or Salve. Sølv means silver in Danish.

Svealand, Swealand or (rarely or historically) Sweden proper is the historical core regionof Sweden. Historically, its inhabitants were called Svear, from which is derived the English Swedes. The older name of Sweden in Swedish, Svea rike (modern spelling: Sverige) or the "Realm of the Swedes", "Swea Region", originally only referred to Svealand. Other forms are Sweoðeod (Old Norse/Icelandic Svíþjóð), and Sweorice. As the domains of the Swedish kings grew, the name Svealand began to be used to separate the original territory from the new.

- Umeå is a university town and centre of education, technical and medical research in Sweden, with two universities and over 39,000 students. The city was elected as the European Capital of Culture of 2014.The northern parts of Sweden, including the counties of Västerbotten and Norrbotten, were mostly settled by nomadic Sami people before this time but not necessarily forming any permanent settlement in the city's exact location. The name is believed to be derived from the Old Norse word Úma which means roaring. The name of the town would therefore mean "The Roaring River.the coast came to be permanently settled by Germanic peoples moving upwards on the Bothnian Bay by boat, hence the Germanic names of towns and villages on the Westrobothnian coast. Some Kven people had permanent settlements in northern Westrobothnia (Piteå and Luleå) but were gradually assimilated with the Germanic tribes although some Finnish names of lakes and villages survived. Southern Westrobothnia (Umeå and Skellefteå) has been a permanent Germanic settlement since at least the 14th century, but probably since the Viking ages or earlier. In 1622, a city was again founded by Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. In 1638, it had about 40 houses. It suffered from Russian attacks in 1714 and in 1720 when it was burnt to the ground during the Russian Pillage of 1719-1721. At the close of the Finnish War in 1809 the Russian army under Barclay de Tolly took Umeå and held it from June to August. In 1874 the town improved the plans for its structure after it became a government requirement. Umeå had already started making these changes when on 25 June 1888, a fire devastated the eastern parts of Umeå and at least 2,300 of the 3,000 inhabitants became homeless. In the restoration following the fire, silver birch trees were planted along wide avenues to prevent future fires from spreading. For this reason Umeå is sometimes known as "Björkarnas Stad", the "City of Birches". and the name of the Umeå ice-hockey team, Björklöven, means "The Birch Leaves".
韋姆蘭Värmland (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈvæ̌rmland]) is a landskap (historical province) in west-central Sweden. It borders Västergötland, Dalsland, Dalarna, Västmanland, and Närke, and is bounded by Norway in the west. Latin name versions are Varmelandia, Vermelandia, Wermelandia, Værmalandia, Værmolandia, Virmolandia and Vermillandia. Some of the Latinised forms show the origin of the name to come from the large local lake by the name of Värmeln (from older *Virmil); others from the river name *Værma, the main outlet of said lake.[5] The province was originally part of Götaland, and became part of Svealand in 1815.

- Count Carl Gyllenborg (7 March 1679 in Stockholm – 9 December 1746 in Uppsala) was a Swedish statesman and author. After serving in the Polish War, he was sent to London as secretary of legation. There, he married the Jacobite Sara Wright. In 1715, he was made minister plenipotentiary, and two years later was imprisoned for five months because of his participation in the plot to reinstate the House of Stuart. In 1723, he was appointed Councilor of State, and in 1738 Chancery President (Swedish: Kanslipresident), that is both Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. While in this office, he founded the Hattparti or Hattar (‘Hat’ Party), which instigated the disastrous Russo-Swedish War (1741–1743), resulting in the loss of Kymmenegård. He was successively chancellor of the universities of Lund (1728) and Uppsala (1739), was a patron of letters and art, and wrote several poems and the first Swedish comedy, Den svenska Sprätthöken (1740). His Letters . . . Relating to a Design to Raise a Rebellion on His Majesty's Dominions, to be Supported by a Force from Sweden, were published in French and English (1717).

He was a member of the Submarine Defence Commission investigating the 1982 incursions of foreign submarines in the Stockholm archipelago and naval base areas, and often found himself pitted against prime minister Olof Palme. Bildt was elected leader of the Moderate Party in 1986, succeeding Ulf Adelsohn. In 1991, the Social Democrats were defeated by a four-party coalition led by Bildt's Moderate Party.

- The Karolinska University Hospital (Swedish: Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset) is a university hospital affiliated with Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, with two major sites in the municipalities of Solna and Huddinge. The present day Karolinska University Hospital is the result of a 2004 merger between the former Huddinge University Hospital (Huddinge universitetssjukhus) in Huddinge, south of Stockholm, and the Karolinska Hospital (Karolinska Sjukhuset) in Solna, north of Stockholm. The new hospital has about 15,000 employees and 1,340 patient beds. The Karolinska University Hospital is closely affiliated with the Karolinska Institutet. It incorporates the Astrid Lindgren Children’s hospital in Solna and the Children’s Hospital in Huddinge. The Karolinska University Hospital in Solna is being replaced by the New Karolinska Solna University Hospital. The New Karolinska Solna University Hospital (NKS) (Swedish: Nya Karolinska Solna), is the new university hospital built in Solna, Sweden, replacing the old Karolinska University Hospital buildings in Solna. In April 2008, the decision was made by the Stockholm County Council to build a new university hospital in Stockholm. To construct a new hospital has been considered to be more cost effective, compared to renovating and refurbishing the present facilities, spread over a large area in more than 40 buildings. In June 2008, it was decided that the new university hospital will be built using the PPP (or PFI) model which includes also financing as well as management of the building after the completion. The project, however, was met with controversy, and the process for planning and building the hospital has been heavily criticized for poor construction planning, execution, management and corruption. The first departments to move into the new hospital building in 2016 were those associated with the cardiovascular theme and the pediatric unit of the children's and women's health theme. All the other departments are expected to move into the new hospital building by the end of 2018.

- Swedish clothing brand H&M said it would launch an online store in Russia this fall to boost already rising sales in the country. In a report of its results over the first 9 months of this year, Stockholm-based H&M said year-on-year sales in Russia had risen by 15 percent to 2.6 billion Swedish krona ($312 million). In ruble terms, sales increased 56 percent during the period. The Russian currency has weakened sharply over the past year, making imported goods more costly in rubles. H&M, which specializes in cheap clothing, is scooping up business as Russians are forced to reign in spending by a recession that has seen real incomes fall sharply. Inflation was running at 15.8 percent in August, far higher than wage growth, leading to a decrease in retail sales across Russia of more than 9 percent compared to the same month in 2014. H&M said in the report it had opened 15 new stores in Russia since the beginning of the year, taking the total to 86 stores spread across the country. It said it planned to open online stores in Russia and Switzerland this fall. H&M's online shops are currently available in 21 countries. The company first set up shop in Russia in 2009.

- Swedbank AB (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈsvɛdbaŋk], [ˈsvɛdbæːŋk] or [ˈswɛdːbæːŋk])[1] is a Nordic-Baltic banking group based in Stockholm, Sweden, offering retail banking, asset management, financial, and other services. The first Swedish saving bank was founded in Gothenburg in 1820. In 1992, a number of local savings banks merged to create Sparbanken Sverige ("Savings Bank Sweden"). In 1995, this bank was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange and in 1997, it merged with Föreningsbanken under the combined name FöreningsSparbanken (abbreviated FSB). During the late 2000s global financial crisis, Swedbank accepted government assistance due to its losses from loans made to neighboring Baltic economies. On 8 September 2006, Föreningssparbanken AB changed its name to Swedbank AB. The name change took place in the afternoon local time, after the Swedish Companies Registration Office registered the changes in the company's articles of association. On the same date, the subsidiary AB Spintab changed its name to Swedbank Hypotek AB ("Swedbank Mortgage AB") and FöreningsSparbanken Jordbrukskredit AB changed its name to Swedbank Jordbrukskredit AB ("Swedbank Farm Credit AB"). Other subsidiaries will change their names at later dates.

- SVT is the Swedish national public TV broadcaster, funded by a television licence fee payable by all owners of television sets, and set by the Riksdag. Sveriges Television AB (Swedish: [ˈsværjɛs tɛlɛvɪˈɧuːn]), Sweden's Television is a public limited company that can be described as a quasi-autonomous non-government organisation. Together with the other two public broadcasters, Sveriges Radio and Sveriges Utbildningsradio, it is owned by an independent foundation, Förvaltningsstiftelsen för Sveriges Radio AB, Sveriges Television AB och Sveriges Utbildningsradio AB, The foundation's board consists of 13 politicians, representing the political parties in the Riksdag and appointed by the Government. The foundation in turn appoints the members of the SVT board. SVTs regulatory framework is governed by Swedish law. Originally, SVT and Sveriges Radio were a joint company, but since 1979 they and Sveriges Utbildningsradio are sister companies sharing some joint services. SVT maintained a monopoly in domestic terrestrial broadcasting from the start in 1956 until the privately held TV4 started broadcasting terrestrially in 1992. It is barred from accepting advertisements except in the case of sponsors for sporting events. Until the launch of the Swedish language satellite television channel TV3 in 1987, Sveriges Television provided the only Swedish television available to the public. SVT is still the biggest TV network in Sweden, with an audience share of 36.4 percent. When radio broadcasting was organized in the 1920s, it was decided to adopt a model similar to the one of the British Broadcasting Company in the United Kingdom. The radio would be a monopoly funded by a license fee and organized as a limited company, AB Radiotjänst ("Radio Service Ltd."), owned by the radio industry and the press. The transmitters were owned by the state through Telegrafverket and the press held a monopoly on newscasts through Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå. AB Radiotjänst was one of 23 founding broadcasting organizations of the European Broadcasting Union in 1950.
Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå lost its monopoly on newscasts de jure in 1947 and de facto in 1956, but otherwise the same model would be applied to television. - swedish media group

The Russian pay television service, which operated under the brand Viasat, was bought by a Russian company, Sinerdzhi, while the international business was sold to Sabiero Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of international private equity company Baring Vostok. The deals were worth $45.5 million, the statement said. The news comes a month after Modern Times Group sold its stake in CTC Media, Russia’s largest non-state broadcaster, to investors including Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov. The sales were prompted by a law passed last year, at the height of tensions with the West over the Ukraine crisis, that bars foreigners from owning more than 20 percent of Russian media companies. The legislation comes into effect on Jan. 1, 2016.

- When Klarna’s three founders presented their digital invoicing idea to the cream of Swedish industry and the country’s king in 2005, they suffered rejection. “Look, this is never going to work; the banks are going to do this,” Klarna’s chief executive, Sebastian Siemiatkowski, remembers as the message of the jury — consisting of a member of the Wallenberg family and Hennes & Mauritz’s chairman among others. As a self-described “cocky” 23-year-old, Mr Siemiatkowski did not take the knock-back too seriously, but instead thought: “One day, we will be a bank.” That day came on Monday, when Klarna finally received its banking licence, 12 years after the spurning of its idea at the Stockholm School of Economics. https://www.ft.com/content/4b376e58-54f6-11e7-9fed-c19e2700005f

- Swedish Match AB is a Swedish company based in Stockholm that makes snus, moist snuff, and chewing tobacco (with its Red Man brand). These products are known as moist smokeless tobacco. The company also makes machine-made cigars, matches, and lighters and sells batteries, light bulbs and disposable razors. The operations of Swedish Match originate from two companies: Svenska Tobaksmonopolet, a tobacco monopoly owned by the Swedish state and founded in 1915, and Svenska Tändsticks Aktiebolaget (STAB), a match manufacturing company founded in 1917 by Ivar Kreuger (also known as the ”Match King”) in connection with the acquisition of Jönköpings Tändsticksfabrik.[3][5] In 1992, the tobacco and lights operations were joined in the Procordia Group. Two years later, they were merged into an independent company named Swedish Match, which became publicly listed in 1996.During parts of its existence, most recently between 2010 and 2015, the company has been headquartered in the so-called Matchstick Palace, commissioned by Ivar Krueger in the late 1920s.In 1917, Ivar Kreuger founded Svenska Tändsticks Aktiebolaget (STAB) in Jönköping (also known as "City of the matches").[3][5] It was a merger between Aktiebolaget Förenade Tändsticksfabriker and Jönköpings & Vulcans Tändsticksfabriksaktiebolag.[3] A year later, STAB was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.[3][8] By expanding through acquisition of government-created monopolies by lending money to the governments, and through mergers with for instance the British match company Bryant and May in 1927, it became the world's largest match manufacturer. In 1930, the company controlled 60 percent of the world's match production and was the sole owner of match companies in 33 countries.Following the death of Ivar Kreuger in 1932, the ownership structure in STAB changed and a number of factories were liquidated. During 1938, STAB's share of the world's matchmaking fell to 20 percent.[3] When the match market declined sharply in the 1950s, STAB looked for new business ventures and acquired more than 50 companies between 1968 and 1976.In 1980, Svenska Tändsticks AB changed its name to Swedish Match to create unity throughout the group.[3] In 1988 the company was acquired by Stora AB and was sold two years later to Nederlight. After another two years, Procordia acquired Swedish Match.

- The Daim bar (formerly Dajm in the Nordic Countries and Dime in the British Isles) is a Swedish candy bar made from crunchy almond toffee covered in milk chocolate. It is similar to Hershey's Heath and Skor bars. Daim was created by Marabou in Sweden in the 1950s. Marabou originally wanted to produce a version of the American Heath Co.'s bar; its vice president Lars Anderfelt inquired about licensing Heath's exact recipe. The Heath Co. refused but gave Anderfeldt a list of their ingredients. From this, Marabou created their own recipe, testing it in Stockholm in 1952 with great success. It was launched under the name "Dajm" throughout Sweden and Norway the next year, Finland in 1963, and Denmark in 1971. It was renamed "Daim" in most countries in 1990, although it continued to be marketed in the British Isles as "Dime". The brand was purchased by Kraft Foods in 1993 and is now held by Mondelez International, which Kraft spun off in 2012.[2] The same year, its British and Irish factories began to use the spelling "Daim" as well.

The Karolinska Institute was founded by King Karl XIII on 13 December 1810 as an "academy for the training of skilled army surgeons" after one in three soldiers wounded in the Finnish War against Russia died in field hospitals. Indeed, a report of the time came to the conclusion that "the medical skills of the army barber-surgeons are manifestly inadequate, so Sweden needs to train surgeons in order to better prepare the country for future wars." Just one year later, in 1811, the Karolinska Institute was granted license to train not only surgeons but medical practitioners in general.

- Birger Jarl (c. 1210[3][4] – 21 October 1266), or Birger Magnusson, was a Swedish statesman, Jarl of Sweden and a member of the House of Bjelbo, who played a pivotal role in the consolidation of Sweden.[5] Birger also led the Second Swedish Crusade, which established Swedish rule in Finland. Additionally, he is traditionally attributed to have founded the Swedish capital, Stockholm, around 1250. Birger used the Latin title of Dux Sweorum which in English equals Duke of Sweden, and the design of his coronet combined those used by continental European and English dukes.
- Gustav II Adolf (9 December 1594 – 6 November 1632, O.S.); widely known in English by his Latinised name Gustavus Adolphus or as Gustav II Adolph, or as Gustavus Adolphus the Great (Swedish: Gustav Adolf den store, Latin: Gustavus Adolphus Magnus, a formal posthumous distinction passed by the Riksdag of the Estates in 1634); was the King of Sweden from 1611 to 1632 and is credited as the founder of Sweden as a Great Power (Swedish: Stormaktstiden). He led Sweden to military supremacy during the Thirty Years' War, helping to determine the political as well as the religious balance of power in Europe. He is often regarded as one of the greatest military commanders of all time, with innovative use of combined arms. His most notable military victory was the Battle of Breitenfeld. With a superb military machine with good weapons, excellent training, and effective field artillery, backed by an efficient government which could provide necessary funds, Gustavus Adolphus was poised to make himself a major European leader, but he was killed at the Battle of Lützen in 1632. He was ably assisted in his efforts by Count Axel Oxenstierna, the Lord High Chancellor of Sweden, who also acted as regent after his death.
- Gustaf VI Adolf (Oscar Fredrik Wilhelm Olaf Gustaf Adolf; 11 November 1882 – 15 September 1973) was King of Sweden from 29 October 1950 until his death. He was the eldest son of King Gustaf V and his wife, Victoria of Baden, and had been Crown Prince of Sweden for the preceding 43 years in the reign of his father. Gustaf VI Adolf was a lifelong amateur archeologist particularly interested in Ancient Italian cultures. He was born at the Royal Palace in Stockholm and at birth created Duke of Scania. A patrilineal member of the Bernadotte family, he was also a descendant of the House of Vasa through maternal lines. Through his mother, Victoria, he was a descendant of Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden of the deposed House of Holstein-Gottorp.
- olof palme
- Sven Olof Joachim Palme (Swedish: Olof Palme; pronounced [ˈʊlɔf palˈmɛ]; 30 January 1927 – 28 February 1986) was a Swedish Social Democratic politician, statesman and prime minister. A longtime protégé of Prime Minister Tage Erlander, Palme led the Swedish Social Democratic Party (S) from 1969 until his assassinationin 1986, and was a two-term Prime Minister of Sweden, heading a Privy Council Government from 1969 to 1976 and a cabinet government from 1982 until his death. Electoral defeats in 1976 and 1979 marked the end of Social Democratic hegemony in Swedish politics, which had seen 40 years of unbroken rule by the party. While leader of the opposition, he parted domestic and international interests and served as special mediator of theUnited Nations in the Iran–Iraq War, but returned to power as Prime Minister after electoral victories in 1982 and 1985. A pivotal, renowned, and polarizing figure domestically as well as in international politics since the 1960s, Palme was steadfast in his non-alignment policy towards the superpowers, accompanied by support for numerous third world liberation movements following decolonizationincluding, most controversially, economic and vocal support for a number of Third World governments which were guilty of gross violations of human rights. Most famously, he was the first Western Head of Government to visit Cuba after its revolution, giving a speech in Santiagopraising contemporary Cuban andCambodian revolutionaries. Frequently a critic of US and Soviet foreign policy, he resorted to fierce and often polarizing criticism in pinpointing his resistance towards imperialist ambitionsand authoritarian regimes, including those of Francisco Franco of Spain, António de Oliveira Salazar of Portugal, Gustáv Husákof Czechoslovakia, B J Vorster and P W Botha of South Africa. His 1972 condemnation of the Hanoi bombings, notably comparing the tactic to theTreblinka extermination camp, resulted in a temporary freeze in Sweden–United States relations. His murder by an unapprehended assailant on a street in Stockholm on 28 February 1986 was the first of its kind in modern Swedish history, and the first assassination of a national leader since Gustav III. It had a great impact across Scandinavia. Local convict and addict Christer Pettersson was convicted of the murder but was acquitted on appeal by the Svea Court of Appeal.
He had been noted internationally as a mediator in the Yugoslav wars, serving as the European Union's Special Envoy to the Former Yugoslavia from June 1995, co-chairman of the Dayton Peace Conference in November 1995 and High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina from December 1995 to June 1997, immediately after the Bosnian War. From 1999 to 2001, he served as the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Balkans. Bildt was born on 15 July 1949 in Halmstad, Halland, to an old Norwegian-Danish-Swedish noble family traditionally domiciled in Bohus county.Bildt's father Daniel Bildt (1920–2010) was a former major in the reserves of the now defunct Halland Regiment and a former bureau director in the now defunct Civil Defense Board's Education Bureau. As an MP in the early eighties, he became noted as an incisive and combative debater on foreign affairs.

Investor, which owns controlling stakes in businesses such as SEB, Electrolux, ABB and Saab, will split off all the companies it owns into a unit to be headed by its current chief executive, Börje Ekholm. He will be replaced after a decade at the top of Investor by Johan Forsell, a 20-year veteran of the Wallenberg empire who is at present a director at Atlas Copco and Saab. The move comes days after Industrivärden, the other big Swedish holding company that together with Investor controls more than half of the Stockholm stock exchange by value, changed its chief executive and chairman after a private jet scandal.
- http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/8662c054-0a11-11e5-a6a8-00144feabdc0.html One of Europe’s leading business families is warning that the UK leaving the EU would be more damaging than Greece leaving the euro as it would rob Europe of its leading advocate of open trade. Sweden’s Wallenberg family — which controls a business empire with a market capitalisation of €250bn and revenues of SKr1.3tn ($156bn) through companies from Ericsson and Electrolux to Nasdaq and Saab — told the Financial Times that a “Brexit” would be “very negative for Europe”.
- http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/4f407796-0a35-11e5-a6a8-00144feabdc0.html Together, brothers Jacob and Peter junior and their cousin Marcus are the public face of the fifth generation of the Wallenbergs, the Swedish dynasty that can arguably be called Europe’s pre-eminent business family. Others may be older or richer but none can combine the Wallenbergs’ longevity with the breadth of their holdings. Their company stakes range from drugmaker AstraZeneca and white-goods manufacturer Electrolux to defence group Saab and telecoms-equipment maker Ericsson. Together, they add up to an empire that controls businesses worth €250bn. Even the mine they are standing in today is a test facility for equipment belonging to their biggest holding in monetary terms, industrial group Atlas Copco. Rather incongruously, you reach the mine’s labyrinthine tunnels using a lift from the main entrance to Atlas Copco’s headquarters. Back above ground the three Wallenbergs are similarly jovial. As Jacob struggles to coax coffee out of a high-tech device, his brother and cousin crowd around to help. “How many Wallenbergs does it take to work a coffee machine?” I ask. Jacob, the eldest at 59 and chairman of Investor — the listed holding company that is their main investment vehicle — raises three fingers as the others giggle. But they soon become serious, convening for a brief huddle in their almost matching dark suits before heading into a small and anonymous meeting room for this, their first joint interview. In keeping with the Swedish bent for modesty, the Wallenbergs prefer to stay out of the limelight and so getting all three of them on the record is big news, and not just in Sweden. “The Wallenbergs are one of the principal families of the business world, not just in Europe but globally. There is almost no industry they do not have an interest in,” says a German chief executive who knows them well. Their holdings add up to a third of Sweden’s entire stock exchange.
- http://www.economist.com/news/business/21694555-lessons-100-years-familys-industrial-empire-nordic-pyramid The foundations were laid for the dynasty’s fortunes 160 years ago when André Oscar Wallenberg, the globe-trotting son of a Lutheran bishop, returned from America with a book on how to set up a bank, and founded Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB). The bank flourished, and began buying chunks of distressed industrial firms, leading the family to set up a holding company, Investor, 100 years ago. At the height of the Wallenbergs’ pre-eminence, in the 1970s, their various firms together employed 40% of Sweden’s industrial workforce and represented 40% of the total worth of the Stockholm stockmarket. Like most modern manufacturers, the industrial firms in their portfolio, including ABB and Atlas Copco (engineering), AstraZeneca (drugs) and Electrolux (appliances), are no longer huge employers. But Investor, plus SEB and the other listed firms in Investor’s portfolio, still account for about a third of the stockmarket’s value. And they generally do better than the rest: in the past decade, Investor’s shares have doubled, whereas the OMX Stockholm 30 Index rose by just 40%. Swedes often talk about the collection of companies as Wallenbergsfaren, “the Wallenberg sphere”, and to its smaller local rivals as “systems”. One of the largest systems is Industrivarden, whose portfolio includes Handelsbanken and the maker of Volvo Trucks. It has passed through several hands down the years, including those of Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of the IKEA furniture stores; its leading investor nowadays is Fredrik Lundberg, the son of a construction magnate. The Wallenbergs and Industrivarden both have large stakes in Ericsson, a maker of telecoms equipment.

Von Platen himself extolled the modernising virtues of the canal in 1806, claiming that mining, agriculture and other industries would benefit from "a navigation way through the country." The project was inaugurated on 11 April 1810 with a budget of 24 million Swedish riksdalers.[5] It was by far the greatest civil engineering project ever undertaken in Sweden up to that time, taking 22 years of effort by more than 58,000 workers.

snus is a moist snuff packet (imagine a tobacco teabag the size of a piece of chewing gum) that you wedge between your lip and teeth. Well, maybe you don't, but the Swedes do. A lot. If you think a snus packet sounds familiar, it's probably because you've seen one dangling from a Swede's upper lip mid-conversation, or perhaps you've seen a used one in the gutter or in the toilet, spat out and forgotten.

History
http://pdf.wenweipo.com/2017/04/08/a20-0408.pdf- The Battle of Poltava (Swedish: Slaget vid Poltava;Russian: Полта́вская би́тва; Ukrainian: Полта́вська би́тва) on 27 June 1709 (8 July, N.S.)[e] was the decisive victory of Peter I of Russia, also known as Peter the Great, over the Swedish forces under Field Marshal Carl Gustav Rehnskiöld, in one of the battles of the Great Northern War. It is widely believed to have been the beginning ofSweden's decline as a Great Power, as the Tsardom of Russia took its place as the leading nation of north-eastern Europe. The battle also bears major importance inUkrainian national history, as Hetman Ivan Mazepa sided with the Swedes, seeking to create an uprising in Ukraine against the tsardom. Charles and Mazepa escaped with about 1,500 men to Bendery, Moldavia, then controlled by the Ottoman Empire.[12]:710 Charles spent five years in exile there before he was able to return to Sweden in December 1715.[15]:295 During which time, even handicapped, he retained his magisterial calm demeanor under fire, fighting his way out of several situations. The high vizier of the Turks was eventually paid off, much intrigue and espionage involved, plots within plots, at one point involving a ransom of the Russian crown jewels, according to Charles's prison translator.
- The Battle of Svensksund (Finnish:Ruotsinsalmi, Russian: Rochensalm) was anaval battle fought in the Gulf of Finlandoutside the present day city of Kotka on 9 and 10 July 1790. The Swedish naval forces dealt the Russian fleet a devastating defeat that resulted in an end to the Russo-Swedish War of 1788–90. The battle is the biggest Swedish naval victory and the largest naval battle ever in the Baltic Sea. This defeat encouraged Russia to negotiate with Sweden, eventually signing the Treaty of Värälä on 14 August 1790. Neither side gained any territory, however all provisions in the peace treaty of Nystad from 1721 that formally infringed upon Swedish sovereignty were cancelled. After the war the Russians started a massive fortification programme on the eastern, Russian, side of the Kymi river, building the sea fortresses Fort Slava, Fort Elisabeth and the land fortress Kyminlinna. The forts later grew into the port city of Kotka.
- The Swedish East India Company(Swedish: Svenska Ostindiska Companiet or SOIC) was founded inGothenburg, Sweden, in 1731 for the purpose of conducting trade with theFar East. The venture was inspired by the success of the Dutch East India Company and the British East India Company and grew to become the largest trading company in Sweden during the 18th century, though its European influence was marginal, until it folded in 1813.

Apart from Russia, Sweden and Finland are the only two countries bordering the Baltic Sea that are not members of Nato. Stockholm depends on its bilateral defence agreement with the US for security but Mr Wallmark fears that this agreement will probably be weakened under Mr Trump. “Now we have to rely on a person that is very tricky to read. The arguments for Swedish membership are therefore even higher today. It’s better that we seek the strength in co-operating with 28 countries rather just one nation,” Mr Wallmark said.

"I have received Mehmet Kaplan's resignation request and I have approved it," said the Prime Minister. "I've come to know Mehmet Kaplan as a man of humanistic and democratic values, but a minister should be able to represent Sweden in an unquestionable way." The press conference comes on the back of a week of controversies, which has seen Kaplan accused of being too closely affiliated with members of radical organizations. - Sven Anders Hedin, KNO1kl RVO, (19 February 1865 – 26 November 1952) was a Swedish geographer, topographer, explorer, photographer, travel writer, and illustrator of his own works. During four expeditions to Central Asia, he made the Transhimalayaknown in the West and located sources of the Brahmaputra, Indus and Sutlej Rivers. He also mapped lake Lop Nur, and the remains of cities, grave sites and the Great Wall of China in the deserts of the Tarim Basin. In his book Från pol till pol (From Pole to Pole), Hedin describes a journey through Asia and Europe between the late 1880s and the early 1900s. While traveling, Hedin visitedConstantinople (Istanbul), Caucasus, Tehran, Mesopotamia (Iraq), lands of the Kyrgyz people, India, China, Asiatic Russia, and Japan. The posthumous publication of his Central Asia Atlas marked the conclusion of his life’s work
- Hedin met Chiang Kai-shek in Nanjing, who thereupon became a patron of the expedition. The Sino-Swedish Expedition was honored with a Chinese postage stamp series which had a print run of 25,000. The four stamps show camels at a camp with the expedition flag and bear the Chinese text, "Postal Service of the Prosperous Middle Kingdom" and in Latin underneath, "Scientific Expedition to the Northwestern Province of China 1927-1933". A painting in the Beijing Palace Museum entitled Nomads in the Desert served as model for the series. Of the 25,000 sets, 4,000 were sold across the counter and 21,500 came into the possession of the expedition. Hedin used them to finance the expedition, selling them for a price of five dollars per set. The stamps were unwelcome at the time due to the high price Hedin was selling them at, but years later became valuable treasures among collectors.
- One aspect of the geography of central Asia which intensively occupied Hedin for decades was what he called the “wandering lake” Lop Nur. In May 1934, he began a river expedition to this lake. For two months he navigated the Kaidu River and the Kum-Darja to Lop Nur, which had been filled with water since 1921. After the lake dried out in 1971 as a consequence of irrigation activities, the above-mentioned transportation link enabled the People’s Republic of China to construct a nuclear weapon test site at Lop Nur. His caravan of truck lorries was hijacked by the Chinese Muslim General Ma Zhongying who was retreating from northern Xinjiang along with his Kuomintang 36th Division (National Revolutionary Army) from the Soviet Invasion of Xinjiang. While Hedin was detained by Ma Zhongying, he met General Ma Hushan, and Kemal Kaya Effendi. Ma Zhongying's adjutant claimed to Hedin that Ma Zhongying had the entire region of Tian-shan-nan-lu (southern Xinjiang) under his control and Sven could pass through safely without any trouble. Hedin did not believe his assertions. Some of Ma Zhongying's Tungan (Chinese speaking Muslim) troops attacked Hedin's expedition by shooting at their vehicles. For the return trip, Hedin selected the southern Silk Road route via Hotan to Xi'an, where the expedition arrived on 7 February 1935. He continued on to Beijing to meet with President Lin Sen and to Nanjing to Chiang Kai-shek. He celebrated his 70th birthday on 19 February 1935 in the presence of 250 members of the Kuomintang government, to whom he reported interesting facts about the Sino-Swedish Expedition. On this day, he was awarded the Brilliant Jade Order, Second Class. At the end of the expedition, Hedin was in a difficult financial situation. He had considerable debts at the German-Asian Bank in Beijing, which he repaid with the royalties and fees received for his books and lectures. In the months after his return, he held 111 lectures in 91 German cities as well as 19 lectures in neighboring countries. To accomplish this lecture tour, he covered a stretch as long as the equator, 23,000 kilometres (14,000 mi) by train and 17,000 kilometres (11,000 mi) by car—in a time period of five months. He metAdolf Hitler in Berlin before his lecture on 14 April 1935.

- Richard Dybeck (1 September 1811 – 28 July 1877) was a Swedish jurist, antiquarian, and lyricist, and today is mainly remembered as the author of the lyrics to what is now the de facto Swedish national anthem, Du gamla, Du fria. Dybeck was born in Odensvi Prästgård just outside the town Köping, in Västmanland. He was the son of a clergyman, went to gymnasium in Västerås, and later matriculated at Uppsala University in 1831. He completed his civil service degree in law (hovrättsexamen) in 1834 and entered the Svea hovrätt appeal court. He held a number of positions in the court system during the following years, but eventually began to spend all his time on his antiquarian and historical research. Dybeck wrote many poems. He was known to be keenly interested in Asian culture, as was seen by his collection of historic prints and lithographs which originated from places like Myanmar and China.

snus is a moist snuff packet (imagine a tobacco teabag the size of a piece of chewing gum) that you wedge between your lip and teeth.

- Carl Gustav Boberg (16 August 1859 – 7 January 1940) was a Swedish poet and elected official, best known for writing the Swedish language poem of "O Store Gud" (O great God) from which the English language hymn "How Great Thou Art" is derived. He was the editor of a weekly Christian newspaper, Sanningsvittnet(Witness of the Truth), from 1890 until 1916. Boberg served in the Riksdag for 20 years from 1912 to 1931. He published more than 60 poems, hymns, and gospel songs,[a] including a collaboration with Swedish hymnist Lina Sandell.
- "How Great Thou Art" is a Christian hymn based on a Swedish traditional melody and a poem written by Carl Boberg (1859–1940) in Mönsterås, Sweden, in 1885. It was translated into German and then into Russian. It was translated into English from the Russian by English missionary Stuart K. Hine, who also added two original verses of his own. It was popularised by George Beverly Shea and Cliff Barrows during the Billy Graham crusades. Cover version by elvis presley in 1967.

- A ban of Romani immigration was introduced in 1914 and remained in effect until 1954. Romani people seeking to escape the industrialized genocide campaigns in fascist Europe were denied entry. When the Swedish Red Cross sent the White Buses to rescue Scandinavians and Jewish people from the Nazi concentration camps, Romani people were excluded. Some Romani people saved their lives by claiming Jewish identity, some by claiming to be Polish. Romani families, at the time typically named “tattare” (Tatars, lowlives), “zigenare” (Egyptians/Gypsies) or “resande” (Travelers), living inside Sweden’s closed borders became of increasing concern to the state and the good-and-decent citizens. In the 1923 government official report Tattare och zigenare (Tatars and Gypsies), the commissioner saw the integration of Romani people as an “unsolvable problem”. Therefore, the “only solution is to have them out of the country, one way or another”, possibly by “imposing such strict limitations on their freedom of movement that that they themselves find it to their own advantage to leave the country”. During the 1930s, the press ran headlines such as Tattar Terror, Tattar Plague, The Final Solution of the Tattar Problem, and editorials called for the authorities to “liberate the country from these asocial elements”, and a “humane extermination of the tattar race”. https://www.opendemocracy.net/can-europe-make-it/mattias-gardell/swedens-dirty-little-secret

http://pdf.wenweipo.com/2017/04/08/a20-0408.pdf- The Battle of Poltava (Swedish: Slaget vid Poltava;Russian: Полта́вская би́тва; Ukrainian: Полта́вська би́тва) on 27 June 1709 (8 July, N.S.)[e] was the decisive victory of Peter I of Russia, also known as Peter the Great, over the Swedish forces under Field Marshal Carl Gustav Rehnskiöld, in one of the battles of the Great Northern War.

"I've come to know Mehmet Kaplan as a man of humanistic and democratic values, but a minister should be able to represent Sweden in an unquestionable way." Speaking after Löfven, he rejected those claims. "I have always worked against extremism of all kinds," he told reporters, but said he had chosen to resign because his position as minister had become "untenable" following the past week's media storm.- A Turkish association risks having to pay back millions of kronor it received in government grants as an investigation looks in to where the group can be considered to uphold democratic values, Swedish Radio reports. http://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=2054&artikel=6418423

- http://www.chinadailyasia.com/business/2015-12/03/content_15353580.html Tetra Pak, the Swedish food processing and packaging giant, and its dairy-products sister company DeLaval International, have signed a national-level agreement with the Dairy Association of China to train 150 senior farm managers from across the country. The move comes as China's dairy consumption and national awareness of food quality and safety both continue to soar, making the introduction of modern dairy farming methods a government priority. Just under half of China's dairy herd is currently housed in what are considered medium- to large-scale farms, but China hopes to raise that to 60 percent by 2020. As a member of China's dairy industry for more than 30 years, Tetra Pak has been actively providing support for the industry throughout different stages of its development, said Tetra Pak's top executive. To help that effort, over the next five years Tetra Pak and DAC will work closely in bringing some of the world's best dairy farming managers to the country, to help improve productivity and safety, said the Swedish company's President and CEO Dennis Jonsson.
- http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/cndy/2016-09/08/content_26732692.htm Tetra Pak, the Swedish food processing and packaging giant, recently committeditself to increase its use of renewable electricity from 20 percent to 100 percentacross all of its global operations by 2030. One of Tetra Pak's packaging plants inChina has been playing a leading role in reaching this ambitious goal for sevenyears - thanks to the rapid development of two dairy companies, Yili and Mengniu,in Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Tetra Pak launched its fourth Chinese factory in Hohhot, the capital city of theregion. The plant is the most productive in the company, expecting to manufacture40 percent of Tetra Pak's total output in the country this year. The facility relied entirely on renewable energy by 2009, the first in China to achievethis. The estimated 20 million kWh of green power consumed on the site annuallyis supplied primarily from wind turbines.
- Sweden-based paperpacking giant TetraPak used to hold about 90 percent of the bacteria-free paperpacking market in China, and now its market share is decreasing to about 60 to 70 percent, according to industry projections. On July 28, TetraPak closed its factory in Foshan, Guangdong province. The factory had been running for 26 years and once dominated the market in southern China. Now, the manufacturer owns three factories in China: Kunshan, Jiangsu province, Huhhot, the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and Beijing. TetraPak said in a statement that it is difficult for the Foshan factory to maintain its sustainable operations, and the company will assign its production tasks to its three other factories in China. Besides, the government had conducted an investigation for more than four years into the alleged monopoly of TetraPak. In 2016, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce issued a penalty on its monopoly and fined TetraPak a total of 668 million yuan ($100.5 million).http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bizchina/2017-09/01/content_31400831.htm

- Johan Gunnar Andersson (安特生; pinyin: Ān Tèshēng; 3 July 1874 – 29 October 1960)[1] was a Swedish archaeologist, paleontologist and geologist, closely associated with the beginnings of Chinese archaeology in the 1920s. After studies at Uppsala University, and research in the polar regions, Andersson served as Director of Sweden's National Geological Survey. He participated in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition of 1901 to 1903 (on the ship Antarctic). His work on the Falkland Islands and the Bjørnøya, where he first coined the term solifluction, influenced Walery Łoziński create the concept of periglaciation in 1909. In 1914 he was invited to China as mining adviser to the Chinese government. His affiliation was with China's National Geological Survey (Dizhi diaochasuo) which was organized and led by the Chinese scholar Ding Wenjiang (V.K. Ting) and his colleague Wong Wen-hao (Pinyin: Weng Wenhao). During this time, Andersson helped train China’s first generation of geologists, and also made numerous discoveries of iron ore and other mining resources, as well as discoveries in geology and paleontology.Andersson paid his first visit to Zhoukoudian in 1918 drawn to an area called "Chicken Bone Hill" by locals who had misidentified the rodent fossils found in abundance there.[3] He returned in 1921 and was led by local quarrymen to Dragon Bone Hill where he identified quartz that was not local to the area. Realising that this may indicate the presence of prehistoric man he set his assistant, Otto Zdansky, to work excavating. Zdansky returned for further excavations in 1923 and a great deal of material was shipped to Uppsala for analysis. Eventually in 1926, on the occasion of a visit by the Swedish Prince to Beijing, Andersson announced the discovery of two human teeth. These were later identified as being the first finds of the Peking Man. In collaboration with Chinese colleagues such as Yuan Fuli and others, he then discovered prehistoric Neolithic remains in central China’s Henan Province, along the Yellow River. The remains were named Yangshao culture after the village where they were first excavated, in 1921. This too was a highly important breakthrough, since the prehistory of what is now China had not yet been investigated in scientific archaeological excavations and the Yangshao and other prehistoric cultures were completely unknown (they had never been mentioned in any historical documents, and had never before been recognized and investigated). In the following years, 1923–24, Andersson, in his capacity as a staff member of China's National Geological Survey, conducted archaeological excavations in the provinces of Gansu and Qinghai, again in collaboration with Chinese colleagues, and published numerous books and scientific papers on Chinese archaeology, many in the Bulletin of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, which he founded and launched in 1929, and where he published his most significant scientific reports on his own work. Andersson's most well-known book about his time in China is Den gula jordens barn, 1932, translated into several languages, including English (as Children of the Yellow Earth, 1934, reprinted 1973), Japanese, and Korean. For an extensive bibliography of Andersson's works, and a comprehensive discussion of his and his colleagues' archaeological research in China, see M. Fiskesjö and Chen Xingcan, China before China: Johan Gunnar Andersson, Ding Wenjiang, and the Discovery of China's Prehistory. Stockholm: Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities [Östasiatiska museet], 2004. In 1926, Andersson founded the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm, Sweden (in Swedish: Östasiatiska museet), a national museum established to house the Swedish part of the collections from these first-ever scientific archaeological excavations in China. Andersson served as the director of the MFEA until he was succeeded in 1939 by the famous Swedish Sinologist Bernhard Karlgren.
- Göran Malmqvist was born on 6 June 1924 in Jönköping, Sweden. Following introductory studies of Chinese under Sinologist Bernhard Karlgren at Stockholm University, Malmqvist studied in China in 1948–1950. He then returned to Stockholm, taking a Licentiate of Arts degree in 1951. His international research career started shortly thereafter with a lectureship in Chinese at the University of London in 1953–1955. He was then appointed Swedish cultural attaché in Peking and worked in China in 1956–1958.After his years in China he moved to Australia in 1958, where he worked for seven years at the Australian National University in Canberra. After some important essays on Chinese language history he was appointed Professor of Chinese at the university in 1961. During his professorship at the Australian National University, Malmqvist published academic articles on both old Chinese and modern Chinese. The articles concerned e.g. phonological issues and literary dialects during the Han dynasty, the syntax of bound forms in Sïchuanese and western Mandarin phonology.

The university - which has awarded Nobel laureates in medicine or physiology since 1901 - is establishing the centre after local businessman Lau Ming-wai, chairman of Chinese Estates Holdings, made a donation of about HK$400 million to the project. Professor Anders Hamsten, the university's president, said it was exploring several possible locations for the centre, including the Science Park in Pak Shek Kok. He said the centre, which aims to lure international talent in the field of stem-cell technology, would focus its research on three major disease areas - heart failure, liver diseases and neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia. http://hk.apple.nextmedia.com/news/art/20150218/19046954 行政長官梁振英被揭懷疑以權謀私,推介富商劉鳴煒豪捐四億元予瑞典卡羅琳學院,卻未有公開其兒子梁傳昕剛於去年獲得該學院取錄為博士後研究生。

Regarding the issue of tax treaties, the Ministry of Finance is currently unable to
prioritize negotiations with Hong Kong. Department's resources in this area are
limited and there are currently other agreements that are more eager to negotiate or
renegotiate.
Sweden negotiation work with information exchange agreements conducted since 2006 within the framework of a
joint Nordic project. The Nordic Group is negotiating jointly, but the agreements are concluded on a bilateral
basis. These agreements are intended to ensure an exchange of information based on the global standard
which is the basis for the work of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information
(GF). As a member of the GF, Hong Kong has adopted the global standard, so it comes naturally
that the countries included information exchange agreements.

- From 1976 to 1979 he worked for EMI (HK) Ltd as Artist & Repertoire Manager and in 1979 started his own group of Companies, The Melody Bank which became a successful production and publishing house, and The Entertainment Company, which managed several successful Hong Kong artists, including Rowena Cortes and Louie Castro. 10 years later he sold The Melody Bank to BMG Pacific Limited and joined this newly emerging ‘major’ in the music industry as Managing Director. In this role he set up BMG’s music publishing operations in the Asian Region as well as running the record company in Hong Kong. After completing his three-year contract Nelsson was headhunted by the well-known Hong Kong Swaine family (patriarch of this family, Sir John Swaine QC was at the time chairman of both the Royal HK Jockey Club and the Legislative Council.) A new company called The Media Bank was set up under the Chairmanship of elder son John Swaine Junior, with Nelsson as MD. Through Nelsson’s music industry contacts the company acquired representation of several indie labels and publishing catalogues. Nelsson left the company shortly after the Handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997 to pursue China-related opportunities as a consultant.
