The group also approved a 38-point plan to boost cooperation in finance, transportation and agriculture over the 2017-2021 period, the paper said.

虹口區是上海市中心城區中北部的一個市轄區。區名因上海浦的故道虹口港而得名[5]，上海開埠前境內原分屬上海與寶山兩縣。上海開埠後，成為繼黃浦區外上海最早發展的地區。淞滬會戰以前，虹口一度發展成為上海主要的粵籍居民和日籍居民社區，同時虹口也是上海最早的電影放映地和主要的電影放映中心。上海開埠以後，由於位於黃浦江轉角而形成吃水深的地理優勢，使得虹口南側臨江地區逐漸成為碼頭、修造船廠等聚集的地區。中美兩國簽訂《望廈條約》以後，美國人擁有了在五個通商口岸居留、通商及傳教的權力。其中美國聖公會主教文惠廉於1845年由廈門前來上海傳教。在與蘇松太道道台幾經交涉後，最終美國於蘇州河北岸的虹口地區獲准建造教堂並建立美國居留地。後在美國領事熙華德的堅持下，最終於1863年完成了美租界的劃定。今虹口區南部均屬於美租界的範圍，並於當年於英租界合併，稱為英美租界，後正式稱為上海公共租界。1860年代，虹口地區以船廠、工廠和賭場為主，其中包括上海船廠的前身之一耶松船廠和江南製造總局均於此時在虹口創建。另外，基於太平軍、小刀會起義等影響，美租界成為了上海主要華洋雜處的地區。1861年起，工部局於此設立第二個分巡捕房，虹口捕房。此後，又於1867年設立了虹口救火會等市政機構。1873年，熙華德進一步要求重新劃定租界北線。最終於1893年確立了北部邊界。在1870年代以後，虹口地區逐漸繁榮，除工業企業外，如同文書局、同仁醫院等文化衛生機構也陸續在此開辦。到1876年，吳淞鐵路的興建，其火車站更是設置於今河南北路東側，帶來了市面的進一步繁榮[8]。從1870年代開始，一些上海著名的機構也陸續遷到虹口地區，包括公濟醫院、聖方濟學院、麥倫書院等。中西書院在崑山路上設立了分院，並在1915年改制為中國近代史上著名的法學院，東吳大學法學院。四川北路於1877年開始闢築，並逐步成為上海主要的廣東籍移民社區。適逢日本也於這一時期開始明治維新，前來上海經商的日本僑民逐漸增加，吳淞路及北四川路越界築路段逐漸成為日本僑民的聚居區，至1910年上海的日本僑民超過其他各國。1890年代以後，虹口市面進一步發展，工部局立的學校也逐漸創辦於此，包括西童公學、漢璧禮養蒙學堂、華童公學等。這一時期，革命黨人也逐漸將虹口作為在上海的主要據點。其中，位於東有恆路的宋嘉澍寓所是第一次廣州起義的聯絡地之一。另外，秋瑾主編的《中國女報》也設立於北四川路厚德里。1908年3月，上海引入現代公共運輸之一的有軌電車，其中北四川路沿線及東大名路一帶成為上海最早擁有電車通勤的地區。此外，上海第一家電影院虹口大戲院也在乍浦路海寧路路口落成。民國四年（1915年）5月15日，第二屆遠東運動會在虹口公園開幕。南洋兄弟菸草公司也於當年在東大名路設立分公司，三年後，其總公司遷入東大名路。次年，工部局出資翻建三角地菜市為三層室內菜場。民國6年（1917年），公共租界工部局建立日捕股，主要負責北四川路北段日僑集中區域的治安事務。同年，內山書店也創立於北四川路底。11月10日，革命黨人王曉峰、王明山在外白渡橋北堍成功刺殺時任上海鎮守使的鄭汝成。民國9年（1921年）5月，第五屆遠東運動會再次於虹口公園開幕。同時，位於南京的國立東南大學商科（即今上海財經大學前身）遷來今中山北一路。當年，公共租界當局興起一波越界築路的高潮，闢築福生路（今羅浮路）、施高塔路（今山陰路）、竇樂安路（今多倫路）等，其中福生路的闢築更是引發閘北乃至上海地區民眾與租界當局長達半年的抗爭事件。上海最早的公共游泳池，也在工部局的資助下於虹口公園西北側落成，並稱「工部局游泳池」（即今虹口游泳池）。民國11年（1922年），四川路橋完成重建，而其北堍西首，新設計的上海郵政總局大樓正式動工興建，並於兩年後正式落成使用。周祥生也在當年於武昌路創辦祥生汽車行。次年，精武體育會遷入橫浜橋南側，景林堂也於該年在崑山路上落成。中國首座污水處理廠，上海北區污水處理廠也於歐陽路建成，日處理污水能力775立方米。民國13年（1924年），私立持志大學於西體育會路創辦，後遷入水電路。北四川路兩側則進一步發展，英商沙遜洋行於長春路上興建四層公寓，日本人創辦福民醫院於橫浜橋北，基督復臨安息日會在靶子路(今武進路)興建滬北會堂。此外，日軍繼續擴展在虹口公園附近的基地，於江灣路興建海軍陸戰隊司令部。民國14年（1925年），中國共產黨第四次全國代表大會在東寶興路254弄內舉行。當年，《良友》雜誌的出版商良友印刷所於北四川路創建。

 Huangpu, formerly romanized as Whangpoo,[n 1] is a 113-kilometer (70 mi) long river flowing through Shanghai that was first excavated and created by Lord Chunshen, one of the Four Lords of the Warring States during the Warring States period (475 BC - 221 BC). It is the last significant tributary of the Yangtzebefore it empties into the East China Sea. The Bund and Lujiazui are located along the river. The Huangpu is the largest river in Shanghai, with Suzhou Creek being its major tributary. It is on average 400 metres (1,312 feet) wide and 9 metres (30 feet) deep. It divides the city into two regions: Pudong ("East Bank") and Puxi ("West Bank").

Sheshan, formerly known as Zose, is a pair of hills in Songjiang District in western Shanghai, China. The two hills are distinguished as East and West Sheshan, although the more important western hill is also called Sheshan on its own.
It is surmounted by the Our Lady of ChinaCatholic church, Sheshan Basilica, which was built there between 1922 and 1936 following the establishment of a chapel in 1867, soon replaced by a first church in 1871-1873 by French missionaries. Services in the church are held in Latin. The road to the top of Sheshan hill represents the stations of the cross Via Dolorosa (The Way of Suffering) that Christ took to his crucifixion.[citation needed]Every May pilgrims flock to the chapel and the holy road by the hundreds.The hill also houses an observatory founded in 1900 by Jesuits, the Sheshan Observatory. Updated regulations on the registration system take effect on May 1.       - http://www.sanshanhuiguan.cn/SSHGHTML/cn/sshg/892.html 上海最早的会馆公所建于清顺治年间（1644~1661年），由旅沪的关东、山东两地商帮联合成立的关山东公所，并在城西辟建“义冢”，“以为葬埋公地”。《上海碑刻资料选辑》中就留存了关山东公所义冢地四至碑的碑文。建于康熙五十四年（1715年）的上海商船会馆是经营南北航运的行业性组织，也是上海本地区沙船业主最早建立的行业性会馆。上面我们已经说到，嘉庆中期，上海的沙船就有三千五、六百号，大船载可载官斛三千石，小者一千五、六百石。当时的船主都是崇明、通州、海门、南汇、宝山、上海土著之富民，每造一船，银费七、八千两。大的船主有沙船四、五十号，所以被称为船商。这些经营南北贸易的大商人，在上海地方低价买进南方货物纱、布、茶叶等货物，贩往山东、烟台、天津以及关外的大连、营口、牛庄等地，高价出卖。回船时，就低价收购黄豆、豆油、豆饼、腌腊等货物，运到上海高价卖出。较大的沙船业主还可以在上海并杭州、苏州等处设立行号，零星出售。所以往来一次，他们好做两笔生意。沙船业主们是当时发展起来的地方大商帮，往往根据地区分帮。所以人们说“沙船十一帮，俱以该商本贯为名，以崇明、通州、海门三帮为大，尤多大户。立别宅于上海，亲议买卖。然骄逸成性，视保载行内经手人，不殊奴隶。保载行八家，并非领帖船埠，专为庄客包税，兼及觅船，并不于水脚内抽分行用。海运漕粮既非税货，未便责令该行保载。其大户有船三五十号者，自为通帮所敬厚。”“三大帮之大户……各为本帮领袖，其小帮领袖则由该商保充。饬令常川在馆，会同董事将各帮沙船花名造册呈送。有船到埠，即赴会馆挂号，其是否蓬缆坚固，商户殷实，堪载官漕，即责成董事领袖等出具互结若干番，与本商领状同送，飞咨天津督收官查核。”（27）[27]这些行业的“大户之船，油艌必精善，耆老舵水必皆著名好手。庄客时常为写雇。故富则益富。船少者商本既微，生涯淡泊，船或老朽，贫则益贫。宜饬查明止有一商船五号以内者，非新造新艌之船，不准配运，以昭慎重。”康熙张元隆等沙船主的活动：如康熙四十九年（1710），“船户张元隆呈称，有自造贸易沙船一只，领本县上字七十三号牌照，于本年六月初六日装载各客布匹、瓷器，货值数万金，从海关输税前往辽东贸易。”后来张元隆真的在沙船经营中发了起来，“闻其立意要造洋船百只”。他“自置船皆以百家姓为号，头号赵元发，二号钱两仪，三号孙三益，四号李四美，五号周五华之类，则其意要洋船百只之说，不虚矣！”  在乾嘉年间，上海大沙船主更多。最著名的沙船商有号称“朱、王、沈、郁”的四家，朱家为沙船业的老大，“家资敌国，称之为‘朱半天’”。王家开设的王利川沙船字号不仅拥有上百号的船只，而且还拥有以他家名字命名的王家码头。他们甚至还财大气粗地在商船会馆里左右会务。会馆的事务，“虽名通帮公捐，实未能同归一路。董事之力绵薄，各帮大户，多未谋面。” 上海的“南北货物交流，悉藉沙船。南市十六铺以内，帆樯如林，蔚为奇观。每日满载东北、闽广各地土货而来，易取上海所有百货而去。”

      • 1843年11月，根據《南京條約》的規定，上海成為向外商開放的通商口岸。12月，上海道台與英國領事劃定了外灘英國租界的南北界限。1844年，已經有英資怡和洋行、寶順洋行租借了一批土地。1845年，中英會訂《上海土地章程》。在章程中，上海縣城北部的一塊約830畝被劃給英方作為英商居留地[1]。後在1846年，西界確定。租界地東依黃浦江，南臨洋涇浜，北至李家廠，西達界路，總面積增加到了1080畝。1848年11月27日，英租界的西界推進到今西藏路；同年，美國聖公會主教文惠廉已在蘇州河北岸租地造屋，並於上海道台吳健彰交涉後，虹口地區也被劃作了美商居留地，美租界從而形成。1853年9月7日，小刀會占領上海縣城，從此中國政府失去對租界的控制。1853年，太平天國軍隊占領南京。1854年7月11日，上海英法美租界聯合組建獨立的市政機構「上海工部局」，建立警察武裝，正式形成第一個後來真正意義上的租界——國中之國。1862年，法租界退出聯合，自設公董局。1863年9月，英國和美國在上海的租界正式合併，統一由工部局（Shanghai Municipal Council）管理。1848年11月27日，在青浦教案發生後，英方乘機向上海道台施壓，將北界推至蘇州河南岸，西界向西擴張至了周涇浜。面積由此增加一倍多達到了2820畝[1]。但是在美租界設立後，一直沒有劃定邊界[1]。直至英美租借合併後的1893年，美租界的面積被確認為了7856畝。1899年，公共租界當局以租界內華人及工廠增多為由要求增加租界面積。在多番交涉後，公共租界面積擴展到33503畝（22.59平方公里），北面的邊界到達上海、寶山2縣的交界處，西面一直擴展到靜安寺。整個租界劃分為中、北、東、西4個區。1920年代，上海公共租界的穩固根基開始遭到威脅。1925年5月30日，南京路老閘捕房的巡捕槍殺中國示威者的事件，引起了中國全國性的愛國運動。在五卅運動之後，大規模越界築路基本停止。上海公共租界繼續向外擴張的態勢趨於穩定下來。在蔣介石主政南京十年的黃金時代，上海公共租界繼續繁榮。1937年8月13日－11月10日的淞滬會戰中，日軍將公共租界北區和東區作為進攻中國軍隊的基地，並以海軍陸戰隊代替租界巡捕，公共租界在事實上被分割成兩部分，蘇州河以北地區成為日軍控制的勢力範圍。北區和東區的日占區遭到中國多個軍團的猛烈進攻，70％地區在戰爭中受到嚴重破壞。公共租界的主體部分中區、西區及西部越界築路區域分別由英國、美國和義大利軍隊防守，繼續在戰爭中保持中立達四年之久。位於區內的中國機構照常運行。這些地區又擠進了40萬中國難民。上海公共租界經歷了兩次撤銷過程。第一次是1940年，由於歐洲戰事爆發，駐滬英軍撤退。1941年12月8日，太平洋戰爭爆發，日軍進駐公共租界的中區、西區，英美控制上海公共租界的時代宣告結束。隨後任職於工部局的英美人士陸續遭到解聘。不過工部局仍然繼續工作，直到1943年租界正式撤銷。1943年，日本人支持的汪精衛政權經過對日交涉，收回所有租界，8月，歷時近百年的上海公共租界宣告結束。

      - 1865年，江南製造局於上海 成立，以製造機器、軍火為主， 但在這一方面成績並不理想，反 而附屬的編譯工作，卻成功地在 近代西洋科學、技術思想的輸入 中，佔一個十分重要的地位，對 中國近代的科學化運動有重要的 貢獻。 江南製造局對於中國近代軍 需工業雖有貢獻，可是由於資本 的缺乏，機器設備的簡陋，它的 產品總是不能跟着時代走，與西 洋新產品比較起來，往往相形見 絀。所以當中國需新式武器及軍 火時，還是要向外國購買。由於 是官辦企業，整個製造局暮氣沉 沉，業務不振。1868年，曾國藩建議江南製 造局兼行翻譯西洋書籍： 「不必 假手外人，亦可引申，勒成專書 。」 把洋人的科學技術和知識引 入，再自行研究，日後可以自己 寫書，不必再倚靠外人。 製造局的翻譯館，譯書達 178本，其中關於自然科學者66 本，軍事38本，工程、製造35本 ，醫學11本，農業七本，歷史及 社會學21本，真是洋洋大觀。 日本且派人到製造局來購書 ，以為日文翻譯的參考。這些書 籍第一時間把當時西方各方面的 最新知識及發展向國人介紹，更 是間接促成戊戌之百日維新與辛 亥革命。

      - The Second Zhili–Fengtian War (Second Chihli-Fengtien War;第二次直奉戰爭; pinyin: Dì'èrcì Zhífèng Zhànzhēng) of 1924 was a conflict between the Japanese-backed Fengtian clique based in Manchuria, and the more liberal Zhili clique controlling Beijing and backed by Anglo-American business interests. The war is considered the most significant in China's Warlord era, with the Beijing coup by Christian warlord Feng Yuxiang leading to the overall defeat of the Zhili clique. During the war the two cliques fought one large battle near Tianjin in October 1924, as well as a number of smaller skirmishes and sieges. Afterwards, both Feng and Zhang Zuolin, the latter being ruler of the Fengtian clique, appointed Duan Qirui as a figurehead prime minister. In south and central China, more liberal Chinese were dismayed by the Fengtian's advance and by the resulting power vacuum. A wave of protests followed. The war also distracted the northern warlords from the Soviet-backed Nationalists based in the southern province of Guangdong, allowing unhampered preparation for the Northern Expedition (1926–1928), which united China under the leadership of Chiang Kai-shek.
      - The May Thirtieth Movement (五卅運動; pinyin: Wǔsà Yùndòng) was a major labor and anti-imperialist movement during the middle-period of the Republic of China era. It began when Shanghai Municipal Police officers opened fire on Chinese protesters in Shanghai's International Settlement on May 30, 1925. The shootings sparked international censure and nationwide anti-foreign demonstrations and riots.On Sunday, May 31, crowds of students posted bills and demanded shops refuse to sell foreign goods or serve non-Chinese. They then convened at the Chinese Chamber of Commerce where they gave a list of demands, including punishment of the officers involved in the shooting, an end to extraterritoriality, and closure of the Shanghai International Settlement. The president of the Chamber of Commerce was away, but eventually his deputy agreed to press for these demands to be carried out. Nevertheless, he subsequently sent a message to the foreign Municipal Council that his consent was made under duress. The Municipal Council declared a state of martial law on Monday, June 1, calling up the Shanghai Volunteer Corps militia, and requesting foreign military assistance to carry out raids and protect vested interests. Over the next month Shanghai businesses and workers went on strike, and there were sporadic outbreaks of demonstration and violence. Trams and foreigners were attacked, and there was looting of shops that refused to uphold the boycott of foreigners. Servants to foreigners refused to work, and almost a third of Chinese police failed to turn up for their shifts. The gas-works, electricity station, waterworks and telephone exchange became entirely run by Western volunteers. Numbers of Chinese killed and injured in the May 30 Movement's riots vary - figures normally vary between thirty and two-hundred dead, with hundreds injured. Policemen, firemen, and foreigners were also injured, some seriously, and one Chinese police constable was killed. Two investigations into the events of May 30 were ordered, one by the Chinese authorities and one by international appointees, Justice Finley Johnson(presiding), Judge of the Court of First Instance in the Philippines (representing America), Sir Henry Gollan, Chief Justice of Hong Kong (representing Britain) and Justice Kisaburo Suga of the Hiroshima Court of Appeal (representing Japan). The Chinese authorities refused to participate in the international investigation which, by a vote of 2 to 1, found the shooting justifiable. Only the Justice Finley from America disagreed and recommended sweeping changes, including the retirement of the chief of the Settlement Police, Commissioner McEuen, and Inspector Everson. The forced resignation of these two individuals in late-1925 would be the only official result of the inquiry. By November, with Chiang Kai-shek having finally wrested power from his rivals after Sun Yat-sen's death, and with Chinese businesses wishing to return to business (the Settlement had begun cutting electricity to Chinese mills), the strikes and protests began to burn out.[5] In Hong Kong, however, they would not totally end until mid-1926. The Kuomintang's support for the movement, and their Northern Expedition of 1926/7, eventually led to reforms in the governance of the International Settlement's Shanghai Municipal Council and the beginning of the removal of the Unequal Treaties. Transferred to Beijing were the Muslim Chengda College and Imam (Ahong) Ma Songting due to the May Thirtieth events.


      - The January 28 Incident or Shanghai Incident (January 28 – March 3, 1932) was a conflict between the Republic of Chinaand the Empire of Japan, before official hostilities of the Second Sino-Japanese War commenced in 1937. In Chinese literature it is known as the January 28 Incident (simplified Chinese: 一·二八事变;traditional Chinese: 一·二八事變; pinyin: Yī Èrbā Shìbiàn), while in Western sources it is often called the Shanghai War of 1932 or the Shanghai Incident. In Japan it is known as the First Shanghai Incident, alluding to the Second Shanghai Incident, which is the Japanese name for the Battle of Shanghai that occurred during the opening stages of the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937. On March 4, the League of Nations passed a resolution demanding a ceasefire, though sporadic fighting persisted. On March 6, the Chinese unilaterally agreed to stop fighting, although the Japanese rejected the ceasefire. On March 14, representatives from the League of Nations arrived at Shanghai to force the Japanese to negotiate. While negotiations were going on, intermittent fighting continued in both outlying areas and the city itself. On May 5, China and Japan signed the Shanghai Ceasefire Agreement (simplified Chinese:淞沪停战协定; traditional Chinese: 淞滬停戰協定; pinyin: Sōnghù Tíngzhàn Xiédìng). The agreement made Shanghai a demilitarized zone and forbade China to garrison troops in areas surrounding Shanghai, Suzhou, and Kunshan, while allowing the presence of a few Japanese units in the city. China was allowed to keep only a small police force within the city.  Yoshinori Shirakawa, the commander of the Shanghai Expeditionary Army and joint leader of the Japanese forces, was assassinated by Korean nationalist Yoon Bong-Gil during the battle and died on May 26. After the ceasefire was brokered, the 19th Army was reassigned by Chiang Kai-shek to suppress the Chinese Communist insurrection in Fujian. While winning some battles against the communists they then negotiated peace with them. On November 22, leadership of the 19th Route Army revolted against the Kuomingtang government, and established the Fujian People's Government, independent of the Republic of China. This new Fujian government was not supported by all elements of the communists and was quickly crushed by Chiang's armies in January 1934. The leaders of the 19th Route Army escaped to Hong Kong and the rest of the army was disbanded and reassigned to other units of the National Revolutionary Army.

The gray-looking country club is next to a villa designed by Laszlo Hudec and built for Dr Sun Yat-sen’s son Sun Ke. The building puzzled me when I wrote a series on Hudec’s buildings in Shanghai. The country club was in fact designed by an American architect as an American club. After the Pacific War broke out in 1941, the Japanese military used it as a transit camp and later an internment camp for allied nationals who had remained in Shanghai.The Columbia Country Club’s history is a tale of opposites. From 1927 to 1942 it was a joyful place where Americans came to socialize with one another and “escape” life in Shanghai. After Japanese soldiers occupied the city, they used it as a camp for Western captives, some of whom were forced to sleep in the former bowling alley.Today, it’s used by the state-owned Shanghai Institute of Biological Products, and there are plans to renovate it into a compound housing creative businesses.The building is largely well preserved today with the original Spanish façade. The interior is graced with teak flooring, a grand patterned stone fireplace, solid twisted stone columns and a spiral staircase with cast iron railings. Sure, it looks old and in disrepair, but its former glory is easy to imagine from these details.Construction started in 1923. The club was originally founded in 1918 at 50 Route Doumer (today’s Donghu Road), but after membership increased from 90 in 1918 to over 400 in 1923, a bigger clubhouse was required. So an 8-acre site on the south side of Great Western Road (today’s Yan’an Road W.) was acquired.The club was established due to a desire by the American community to have a place of their own. Up until it had opened, some Americans had been admitted as junior members to clubs of other nationals, according to a report in the English newspaper China Weekly Review in 1923.“The lack of a club is particularly unfortunate in a city like Shanghai where amusements are scarce and where it is a particular solace to get amongst one’s own after a day of contact with people and ideas from all over the world. The intense war atmosphere which pervaded all European clubs in Shanghai during 1914, 1915 and 1916, years when America was trying to preserve neutrality, further aroused Americans to the desirability for clubs of their own. The Columbia Country Club, organized in April 1917, was one of the first expressions of this feeling,” the report said.According to the report, the relocated club was “a distance requiring about 20 minutes’ ride from the business district of Shanghai and adjacent to the residences of a large percentage of Shanghai’s American community.”The report published a sketch of the building by American architect Elliott Hazzard, who had designed the Foreign YMCA Building and Wing On Tower. Hazzard created a two-story clubhouse with arched windows, tiled roof and twisted columns, featuring a dining room, a ball room, a billiard room and abundant sports facilities ranging from swimming, bowling, baseball, tennis and squash.After the club’s completion in 1927, American families living nearby, such as that of Patricia Luce Chapman, often went there for “sports and fun.”“The club was in a real sense the cornerstone of our Columbia Circle community,” she recalled, noting lunches were usually hamburgers smothered in catsup and ice cream for dessert. “Most of our neighbors came over to my parents’ parties, or bridge and poker games, and my parents to theirs. Ballard recalled the club as the gathering point for his family’s trip to Lunghwa Camp in his biography “Miracles of Life.” The club was only a little more than 1 kilometer from his home on Amherst Avenue (today’s Xinhua Road).“When we arrived, we found a huge press of people, mostly British with a few Belgians and Dutch, sitting with their suitcases around the swimming pool, many of the women in their fur coats. Some of the men carried nothing apart from the clothes they were wearing, still confident that the war would be over within days,” he wrote. “Others had strapped tennis rackets, cricket bats and fishing rods to their luggage — we had been told that there were a number of large and very deep ponds within the camp. A few were drunk, aware that they faced long months far from the nearest bar. Together we waited around the swimming pool, sitting at the tables where the American members of the club had once sipped their bourbons and mint juleps. Then the Japanese guards arrived with a small fleet of buses, and we were on our way across the open countryside, among the last group of Allied nationals to be interned.”According to American historian Greg Leck, who wrote “Captives of Empire: The Japanese Internment of Allied Civilians in China, 1941-1945,” the camp was known as Western Area Camp No. 3 after it became a Civil Assembly Center in 1943 when a small group of Britons who were still left in the club were officially interned. But several groups transferring from Ningbo, Xiamen and other Shanghai camps arrived soon, which led to overcrowding.       - 上海展覽中心（英語：Shanghai Exhibition Center）亦稱上海展覽館建成於1955年，原名「中蘇友好大廈」，是上海的代表性建築之一，也是50年代上海市建造的首座大型建築和上海的第一個展覽館[2]，中心部分模仿莫斯科全聯盟農業展覽館主樓及聖彼得堡的海軍部大廈中央塔樓，與北京展覽館一樣同屬俄羅斯古典主義建築風格。上海展覽中心所在地原為英籍猶太人哈同的私人花園愛儷園，俗稱哈同花園，哈同與其夫人羅迦陵相繼去世後，太平洋戰爭爆發，被進入公共租界的日軍侵佔，幾經戰亂哈同花園逐漸荒廢。1954年，上海市政府在廢墟上開始建造中蘇友好大廈的工程，建成後曾經多次易名，1984年正式定名為上海展覽中心。在2011年上海兩會搬至世博中心前，上海展覽中心還是上海市人大和上海市政協的開會地點。英籍猶太人歐司・愛・哈同（Silas Aaron Hardoon，1849－1931年），利用擔任公共租界工部局、法租界公董局董事之職，在西摩路、靜安寺路、長浜路一帶，低價收買土地170餘畝，1904年，在湧泉浜（現南京西路）建造私人花園，1910年竣工，花園以歐司・愛・哈同與妻子羅儷蕤（羅迦陵）的名字中各取一字命名，稱為愛儷園，也稱為哈同花園。花園設計仿造《紅樓夢》裏所寫的大觀園為主，西式為輔。1915年，哈同在愛儷園內設立了倉聖明智大學，倉聖是指中國傳說中創造漢字的聖人倉頡。學生從膳食、住宿到學雜費全部由學校提供，先設小學、中學，後來又增設了大學和女校。1916年，園內成立了廣倉學會。學校與學會，均以研究中國古代文字、古董和典章制度為宗旨。康有為、陳三立、王國維、章一山、費恕皆、鄒景叔等學者都曾在這裏作教書、編撰和研究工作。哈同交友甚廣，各界名流都曾經是哈同花園的座上佳賓，有盛宣懷、羅振玉、章太炎、蔡元培、陳炯明、楊善德、盧永祥、何豐林等。孫中山，徐悲鴻曾在哈同花園居住過，徐悲鴻與第二任夫人蔣碧微女士在這裏相識，章太炎與夫人湯國梨的婚禮也是在哈同花園舉行的。由於無人看管，以及戰時日軍和戰後當地民衆的侵蝕破壞，到1949年中共進入上海時哈同花園已經幾乎成爲廢墟。中共建政後，哈同的繼承人逃離上海，因此新的中共上海市政府沒收了花園。爲了表達對蘇聯的敬仰，50年代初中共中央決定在1955年在上海舉行展覽，展示蘇聯在十月革命之後的37年終取得的經濟和文化成果。1953年，哈同花園被選為此次展覽的會址，政府決定在此建造新的展覽館。[3]1954年5月4日，中蘇友好大廈開始建造。1955年3月5日，中蘇友好大廈建成。蘇聯展覽於 1955年3月15日至5月15日在此舉辦。1956年，大廈第一次作爲政治會議會址使用：中共上海市委第一次大會在此舉辦。直到2011年上海兩會改爲在世博中心舉辦，大廈一直是上海市人大和政協的會址，因此大廈實際上長期擔任著上海市的議會大廈的功能。1959年7月29日，中共上海市委決定，在中蘇友好大廈舉辦一個常設的上海工業展覽會。據有關資料顯示，在5、60年代上海所興建的樓宇都不得超過中蘇友好大廈塔樓上的紅星是一個在上海城市規劃中不成文的規定[2]。1968年5月11日，由於中蘇分裂中蘇友好大廈改名為上海展覽館。1978年9月20日，上海工業展覽會改名為上海市工業展覽館，「上海展覽館」和「上海市工業展覽館」兩個名字開始同時被用來稱呼此建築。1983年12月31日，上海市人民政府決定建立上海展覽館擴建工程籌備工作領導小組辦公室。1984年6月9日，將上海展覽館、上海市工業展覽館和上海展覽館擴建工程籌備工作領導小組辦公室這3個事業單位合併成上海展覽中心，大廈因此開始稱爲「上海展覽中心」。2001年，上海展覽中心進行大修，工程總預算達2.9億元人民幣。光是所需的黃金就有近5000克[2]。2002年2月，整修完畢。此次整修後，大廈的展覽區集中在南面部分，北部則是會議區。

      - 清代廣東人在上海一帶，開始 時是從事傳統的區域間物品交流， 明代就有廣東人到上海經商，明末 清初人屈大均在他的名著《廣東新 語》中說：廣州望郡，人多務賈與 時逐，以香、糖、果、箱、鐵器、 藤、臘、香椒、蘇木、蒲葵諸貨， 北走豫章、吳、浙，西北走長沙、 漢口。 到了清末，廣東人則多在上海 一帶從事買辦活動；隨着洋務運動 興起，買辦轉而為官僚商人，興辦 新式企業，中小商人也建造工廠， 而清朝在上海開辦機器製造局，提 倡官商合辦近代企業，廣東買辦出 身的商人以較大興趣，在滬投資辦 企業。清末官督商辦有四大企業： 上海輪船招商局、上海機器織布局 、開平礦務局、電報總局（始設天 津，後改上海），上海佔了三個。 這些企業，都是以廣東商人為主幹 設立起來的。在清代最後50年中， 華人出國做工、經商驟增，粵人又 在上海經營適應華僑需要的貿易。 在上海經營對南洋華僑貿易的 ，主要是閩粵商人。19世紀60年 代至甲午戰爭期間，廣幫協泰和、 潮幫花德盛，甲午戰後，潮幫仁誠 、謝璧記、春華等商號主要從事南 洋華僑所需要商品的交易（李伯祥 、蔡永貴《近代上海與洋莊和南洋 貿易》，《中國社會經濟史研究》 1986年第3期）。廣東人在滬經營 工商業，特別是新式企業，對於當 地和中國經濟的發展、經營方式和 生產關係的變革有積極意義。 在滬粵人對於發展上海經濟， 尤其是建設近代企業，起着舉足輕 重的作用，這種作用在19世紀80 年代以前，江、浙籍人在滬勢力沒 有超越粵人之時，更加顯著；洋務 運動以後，上海成為近代化趨勢明 顯的城市，經濟樞紐的作用與日俱 增，促進全國的經濟發展。同時， 粵人又是以上海為據點，四處經營 工商業，所以他們不僅有對上海的 作用，而且影響遍及全國。http://paper.takungpao.com/resfile/PDF/20201201/PDF/a19_screen.pdf

Education planning has major implications for the Hong Kong middle class working on themainland. With their families remaining in the southern city, Yao said most of theseprofessionals will unlikely settle on the mainland. Yao this year launched a campaign to establish a school in Shanghai to serve the enormousdemand for education that stays in touch with the Hong Kong system. The proposed privateschool will hire Hong Kong teachers, follow the city's curriculum, and let students sit Hong Kongexams in Shanghai. Yao was aware, however, that he has a lot of bureaucratic hurdles to overcome. A bolder idea is to let registered voters residing on the mainland vote in Hong Kong district andlegislative elections. If hundreds of thousands of them can exercise their right, the Hong Konggovernment will more likely take care of them," he said. "But I don't see a possibility for this now.
